↥ 1 John 1NT with xrefs 1. That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life; - Even as they delivered them unto us, which from the beginning were eyewitnesses, and ministers of the word; Luke 1:2 - Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have. Luke 24:39 - In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:1 2. (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;) - But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel: 2 Tim. 1:10 - The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed: 1 Pet. 5:1 - And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 1 John 5:11 3. That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. - That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. John 17:21 - For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard. Acts 4:20 - God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord. 1 Cor. 1:9 4. And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full. - Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Ps. 16:11 - These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full. John 15:11 - Having many things to write unto you, I would not write with paper and ink: but I trust to come unto you, and speak face to face, that our joy may be full. 2 John 1:12 5. This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. - In him was life; and the life was the light of men. John 1:4 - That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. John 1:9 - Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. John 8:12 6. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: - For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. John 3:20 - Thou that makest thy boast of the law, through breaking the law dishonourest thou God? Rom. 2:23 - He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 1 John 2:4 7. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. - For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light: Eph. 5:8 - How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? Heb. 9:14 - And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Rev. 7:14 8. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. - If they sin against thee, (for there is no man that sinneth not,) and thou be angry with them, and deliver them to the enemy, so that they carry them away captives unto the land of the enemy, far or near; 1 Kings 8:46 - Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin? Prov. 20:9 - For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Rom. 3:23 9. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. - I acknowledge my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the LORD; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah. Ps. 32:5 - He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy. Prov. 28:13 - And there went out unto him all the land of Judaea, and they of Jerusalem, and were all baptized of him in the river of Jordan, confessing their sins. Mark 1:5 10. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. - If they sin against thee, (for there is no man that sinneth not,) and thou be angry with them, and deliver them to the enemy, so that they carry them away captives unto the land of the enemy, far or near; 1 Kings 8:46 - All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. Isa. 53:6 - Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. James 1:17 |
