1. Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;

- Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. Rom. 6:6

- And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. Gal. 5:24

- For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: 1 Pet. 2:21

2. That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.

- And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Rom. 12:2

- This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. Gal. 5:16

- That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; Eph. 4:22

3. For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries:

- Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. Rom. 13:13

- Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: Eph. 2:2

- This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind, Eph. 4:17

4. Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you:

- If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. John 15:19

- Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation. 1 Pet. 2:12

- Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ. 1 Pet. 3:16

5. Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead.

- And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead. Acts 10:42

- So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God. Rom. 14:12

- I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; 2 Tim. 4:1

6. For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.

- Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live. John 5:25

- For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. Rom. 8:2

- By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison; 1 Pet. 3:19

7. But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.

- The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. Rom. 13:12

- Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh. James 5:8

- Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: 1 Pet. 5:8

8. And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.

- Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins. Prov. 10:12

- He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter separateth very friends. Prov. 17:9

- Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins. James 5:20

9. Use hospitality one to another without grudging.

- Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality. Rom. 12:13

- Do all things without murmurings and disputings: Phil. 2:14

- Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares. Heb. 13:2

10. As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.

- And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of meat in due season? Luke 12:42

- Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith; Rom. 12:6

- But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. 1 Cor. 12:7

11. If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

- Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. 1 Cor. 2:13

- Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. 1 Cor. 10:31

- Withal praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds: Col. 4:3

12. Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:

- There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. 1 Cor. 10:13

- If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? Heb. 12:7

- Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: 1 Pet. 1:6

13. But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.

- And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name. Acts 5:41

- And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. Rom. 8:17

- For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ. 2 Cor. 1:5

14. If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.

- And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: Matt. 3:16

- Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Matt. 5:11

- Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man's sake. Luke 6:22

15. But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men's matters.

- For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies. 2 Thess. 3:11

- And withal they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not. 1 Tim. 5:13

- For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God. 1 Pet. 2:20

16. Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.

- Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Matt. 5:10

- And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name. Acts 5:41

- For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake; Phil. 1:29

17. For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?

- For, lo, I begin to bring evil on the city which is called by my name, and should ye be utterly unpunished? Ye shall not be unpunished: for I will call for a sword upon all the inhabitants of the earth, saith the LORD of hosts. Jer. 25:29

- Slay utterly old and young, both maids, and little children, and women: but come not near any man upon whom is the mark; and begin at my sanctuary. Then they began at the ancient men which were before the house. Ezek. 9:6

- In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: 2 Thess. 1:8

18. And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?

- Behold, the righteous shall be recompensed in the earth: much more the wicked and the sinner. Prov. 11:31

- But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die. Ezek. 18:24

- For if they do these things in a green tree, what shall be done in the dry? Luke 23:31

19. Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.

- Into thine hand I commit my spirit: thou hast redeemed me, O LORD God of truth. Ps. 31:5

- And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost. Luke 23:46

- And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit. Acts 7:59
