↥ 1 Tim. 1NT with xrefs 1. Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the commandment of God our Saviour, and Lord Jesus Christ, which is our hope; - But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel: Acts 9:15 - Paul, an apostle, (not of men, neither by man, but by Jesus Christ, and God the Father, who raised him from the dead;) Gal. 1:1 - To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory: Col. 1:27 2. Unto Timothy, my own son in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord. - Then came he to Derbe and Lystra: and, behold, a certain disciple was there, named Timotheus, the son of a certain woman, which was a Jewess, and believed; but his father was a Greek: Acts 16:1 - To Titus, mine own son after the common faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour. Titus 1:4 - I beseech thee for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten in my bonds: Philem. 1:10 3. As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine, - Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them. Acts 20:30 - I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Gal. 1:6 - If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness; 1 Tim. 6:3 4. Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do. - But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness. 2 Tim. 2:16 - Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth. Titus 1:14 - But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain. Titus 3:9 5. Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned: - For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. Rom. 13:9 - For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love. Gal. 5:6 - For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. Gal. 5:14 6. From which some having swerved have turned aside unto vain jangling; - He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings, 1 Tim. 6:4 - Which some professing have erred concerning the faith. Grace be with thee. Amen. 1 Tim. 6:21 - For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision: Titus 1:10 7. Desiring to be teachers of the law; understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm. - And certain men which came down from Judaea taught the brethren, and said, Except ye be circumcised after the manner of Moses, ye cannot be saved. Acts 15:1 - Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth. Titus 1:14 - But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain. Titus 3:9 8. But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully; - The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. Ps. 19:7 - Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good. Rom. 7:12 - And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Rom. 12:2 9. Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, - And he that smiteth his father, or his mother, shall be surely put to death. Ex. 21:15 - Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator. Gal. 3:19 - For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision: Titus 1:10 10. For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine; - And he that stealeth a man, and selleth him, or if he be found in his hand, he shall surely be put to death. Lev. 18:22 - For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; 2 Tim. 4:3 11. According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust. - But contrariwise, when they saw that the gospel of the uncircumcision was committed unto me, as the gospel of the circumcision was unto Peter; Gal. 2:7 - But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, which trieth our hearts. 1 Thess. 2:4 - Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords; 1 Tim. 6:15 12. And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry; - But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel: Acts 9:15 - I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound: Rom. 5:20 15. This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief. - But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. Matt. 9:13 - Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. Matt. 12:31 - And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful. Rev. 21:5 16. Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting. - But thou, O Lord, art a God full of compassion, and gracious, longsuffering, and plenteous in mercy and truth. Amen. 1 Tim. 6:16 18. This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare; - As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine, 1 Tim. 1:3 - Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery. 1 Tim. 4:14 - Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. 1 Tim. 6:12 19.
