1. Rebuke not an elder, but intreat him as a father; and the younger men as brethren;

- Thou shalt rise up before the hoary head, and honor the face of the old man, and fear thy God: I am the LORD. Lev. 19:32

- Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine. 1 Tim. 5:17

- Young men likewise exhort to be sober minded. Titus 2:6

2. The elder women as mothers; the younger as sisters, with all purity.

- When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son! John 19:26

- Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. 1 Tim. 4:12

- Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart. 2 Tim. 2:22

3. Honour widows that are widows indeed.

- Cursed be he that perverteth the judgment of the stranger, fatherless, and widow. And all the people shall say, Amen. Deut. 27:19

- And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration. Acts 6:1

- If any man or woman that believeth have widows, let them relieve them, and let not the church be charged; that it may relieve them that are widows indeed. 1 Tim. 5:16

4. But if any widow have children or nephews, let them learn first to shew piety at home, and to requite their parents: for that is good and acceptable before God.

- Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. Ex. 20:12

- But ye say, If a man shall say to his father or mother, It is Corban, that is to say, a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; he shall be free. Mark 7:11

- And ye suffer him no more to do ought for his father or his mother; Mark 7:12

5. Now she that is a widow indeed, and desolate, trusteth in God, and continueth in supplications and prayers night and day.

- And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day. Luke 2:37

- And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them? Luke 18:7

- But I would have you without carefulness. He that is unmarried careth for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please the Lord: 1 Cor. 7:32

6. But she that liveth in pleasure is dead while she liveth.

- And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; Eph. 2:1

- Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; ye have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter. James 5:5

- And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead. Rev. 3:1

7. And these things give in charge, that they may be blameless.

- These things command and teach. 1 Tim. 4:11

- This witness is true. Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith; Titus 1:13

- These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee. Titus 2:15

8. But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.

- And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so? Matt. 5:47

- Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. 2 Tim. 3:5

- They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate. Titus 1:16

9. Let not a widow be taken into the number under threescore years old, having been the wife of one man.

- A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach; 1 Tim. 3:2

- Honour widows that are widows indeed. 1 Tim. 5:3

- I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully. 1 Tim. 5:14

10. Well reported of for good works; if she have brought up children, if she have lodged strangers, if she have washed the saints' feet, if she have relieved the afflicted, if she have diligently followed every good work.

- If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet. John 13:14

- This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men. Titus 3:8

- Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares. Heb. 13:2

11. But the younger widows refuse: for when they have begun to wax wanton against Christ, they will marry;

- Moreover the LORD saith, Because the daughters of Zion are haughty, and walk with stretched forth necks and wanton eyes, walking and mincing as they go, and making a tinkling with their feet: Isa. 3:16

- The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord. 1 Cor. 7:39

- Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. 1 Tim. 4:3

12. Having damnation, because they have cast off their first faith.

- Go and cry in the ears of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith the LORD; I remember thee, the kindness of thy youth, the love of thine espousals, when thou wentest after me in the wilderness, in a land that was not sown. Jer. 2:2

- If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame. Heb. 6:6

- Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. Rev. 2:4

13. And withal they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not.

- She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. Prov. 31:27

- For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies. 2 Thess. 3:11

- The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; Titus 2:3

14. I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully.

- But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn. 1 Cor. 7:9

- To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed. Titus 2:5

- Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you. Titus 2:8

15. For some are already turned aside after Satan.

- (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: Phil. 3:18

- From which some having swerved have turned aside unto vain jangling; 1 Tim. 1:6

- And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. 2 Pet. 2:2

- Then Peter arose and went with them. When he was come, they brought him into the upper chamber: and all the widows stood by him weeping, and shewing the coats and garments which Dorcas made, while she was with them. Acts 9:39

- And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you; 1 Thess. 5:12

- Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you. Heb. 13:17

18. For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward.

- Thou shalt not muzzle the ox when he treadeth out the corn. Deut. 25:4

- And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house. Luke 10:7

- Even so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel. 1 Cor. 9:14

19. Against an elder receive not an accusation, but before two or three witnesses.

- One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin, in any sin that he sinneth: at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall the matter be established. Deut. 19:15

- But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. Matt. 18:16

- This is the third time I am coming to you. In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established. 2 Cor. 13:1

20. Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear.

- And those which remain shall hear, and fear, and shall henceforth commit no more any such evil among you. Deut. 19:20

- And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican. Matt. 18:17

- But when I saw that they walked not uprightly according to the truth of the gospel, I said unto Peter before them all, If thou, being a Jew, livest after the manner of Gentiles, and not as do the Jews, why compellest thou the Gentiles to live as do the Jews? Gal. 2:14

21. I charge thee before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the elect angels, that thou observe these things without preferring one before another, doing nothing by partiality.

- Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment: thou shalt not respect the person of the poor, nor honor the person of the mighty: but in righteousness shalt thou judge thy neighbor. Lev. 19:15

- I give thee charge in the sight of God, who quickeneth all things, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession; 1 Tim. 6:13

- I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; 2 Tim. 4:1

22. Lay hands suddenly on no man, neither be partaker of other men's sins: keep thyself pure.

- Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you. Matt. 7:6

- Whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them. Acts 6:6

- For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds. 2 John 1:11

23. Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach's sake and thine often infirmities.

- Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more. Prov. 31:7

- Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre; 1 Tim. 3:8

- For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving: 1 Tim. 4:4

24. Some men's sins are open beforehand, going before to judgment; and some men they follow after.

- For there is nothing hid, which shall not be manifested; neither was any thing kept secret, but that it should come abroad. Mark 4:22

- Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God. 1 Cor. 4:5

- Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Gal. 5:19

25. Likewise also the good works of some are manifest beforehand; and they that are otherwise cannot be hid.

- Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Matt. 5:16

- Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known. Matt. 10:26

- And they said, Cornelius the centurion, a just man, and one that feareth God, and of good report among all the nation of the Jews, was warned from God by an holy angel to send for thee into his house, and to hear words of thee. Acts 10:22
