4. Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.

- I, even I, am he that comforteth you: who art thou, that thou shouldest be afraid of a man that shall die, and of the son of man which shall be made as grass; Isa. 51:12

- As one whom his mother comforteth, so will I comfort you; and ye shall be comforted in Jerusalem. Isa. 66:13

- Nevertheless God, that comforteth those that are cast down, comforted us by the coming of Titus; 2 Cor. 7:6

5. For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ.

- In the multitude of my thoughts within me thy comforts delight my soul. Ps. 94:19

- That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; Phil. 3:10

6. And whether we be afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effectual in the enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer: or whether we be comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation.

8. For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life:

- And the same time there arose no small stir about that way. Acts 19:23

- If after the manner of men I have fought with beasts at Ephesus, what advantageth it me, if the dead rise not? let us eat and drink; for to morrow we die. 1 Cor. 15:32

- Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as a fool) I am more; in labours more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequent, in deaths oft. 2 Cor. 11:23

9. But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead:

- Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is. Jer. 17:7

- For I will surely deliver thee, and thou shalt not fall by the sword, but thy life shall be for a prey unto thee: because thou hast put thy trust in me, saith the LORD. Jer. 39:18

10. Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us;

- Then Samuel took a stone, and set it between Mizpeh and Shen, and called the name of it Ebenezer, saying, Hitherto hath the LORD helped us. 1 Sam. 7:12

- David said moreover, The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the LORD be with thee. 1 Sam. 17:37

- Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? Rom. 8:35

11. Ye also helping together by prayer for us, that for the gift bestowed upon us by the means of many persons thanks may be given by many on our behalf.

- Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him. Acts 12:5

- Now I beseech you, brethren, for the Lord Jesus Christ's sake, and for the love of the Spirit, that ye strive together with me in your prayers to God for me; Rom. 15:30

- For I know that this shall turn to my salvation through your prayer, and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ, Phil. 1:19

12. For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world, and more abundantly to you-ward.

- And Paul, earnestly beholding the council, said, Men and brethren, I have lived in all good conscience before God until this day. Acts 23:1

- For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ. 2 Cor. 2:17

- Ye are witnesses, and God also, how holily and justly and unblameably we behaved ourselves among you that believe: 1 Thess. 2:10

13. For we write none other things unto you, than what ye read or acknowledge; and I trust ye shall acknowledge even to the end;

- But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God. 2 Cor. 4:2

- Let such an one think this, that, such as we are in word by letters when we are absent, such will we be also in deed when we are present. 2 Cor. 10:11

- As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. 2 Pet. 3:16

14. As also ye have acknowledged us in part, that we are your rejoicing, even as ye also are our's in the day of the Lord Jesus.

- For we commend not ourselves again unto you, but give you occasion to glory on our behalf, that ye may have somewhat to answer them which glory in appearance, and not in heart. 2 Cor. 5:12

- Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain. Phil. 2:16

- For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming? 1 Thess. 2:19

- But I will come to you shortly, if the Lord will, and will know, not the speech of them which are puffed up, but the power. 1 Cor. 4:19

16. And to pass by you into Macedonia, and to come again out of Macedonia unto you, and of you to be brought on my way toward Judaea.

- After these things were ended, Paul purposed in the spirit, when he had passed through Macedonia and Achaia, to go to Jerusalem, saying, After I have been there, I must also see Rome. Acts 19:21

- And when we had accomplished those days, we departed and went our way; and they all brought us on our way, with wives and children, till we were out of the city: and we kneeled down on the shore, and prayed. Acts 21:5

- Now I will come unto you, when I shall pass through Macedonia: for I do pass through Macedonia. 1 Cor. 16:5

17. When I therefore was thus minded, did I use lightness? or the things that I purpose, do I purpose according to the flesh, that with me there should be yea yea, and nay nay?

- Her prophets are light and treacherous persons: her priests have polluted the sanctuary, they have done violence to the law. Zeph. 3:4

- But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil. Matt. 5:37

- But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation. James 5:12

18. But as God is true, our word toward you was not yea and nay.

- God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord. 1 Cor. 1:9

- Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it. 1 Thess. 5:24

19. For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us, even by me and Silvanus and Timotheus, was not yea and nay, but in him was yea.

- And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you. Ex. 3:14

- And when Silas and Timotheus were come from Macedonia, Paul was pressed in the spirit, and testified to the Jews that Jesus was Christ. Acts 18:5

- Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever. Heb. 13:8

20. For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.

- Who shall also confirm you unto the end, that ye may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Cor. 1:8

- But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. 1 Pet. 5:10

- But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him. 1 John 2:27

22. Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.

- The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: Rom. 8:16

- In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Eph. 1:13

- And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. Eph. 4:30

23. Moreover I call God for a record upon my soul, that to spare you I came not as yet unto Corinth.

- What will ye? shall I come unto you with a rod, or in love, and in the spirit of meekness? 1 Cor. 4:21

- For I fear, lest, when I come, I shall not find you such as I would, and that I shall be found unto you such as ye would not: lest there be debates, envyings, wraths, strifes, backbitings, whisperings, swellings, tumults: 2 Cor. 12:20

- Therefore I write these things being absent, lest being present I should use sharpness, according to the power which the Lord hath given me to edification, and not to destruction. 2 Cor. 13:10

24. Not for that we have dominion over your faith, but are helpers of your joy: for by faith ye stand.

- For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. Rom. 14:17

- And having this confidence, I know that I shall abide and continue with you all for your furtherance and joy of faith; Phil. 1:25
