2 Cor. 5

NT with xrefs

1. For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

- And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God: Job 19:26

- In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 1 Cor. 15:52

- But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. 2 Cor. 4:7

2. For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven:

- And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body. Rom. 8:23

- For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. 1 Cor. 15:53

- Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself. Phil. 3:21

3. If so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked.

- And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. Gen. 3:7

- I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. Rev. 3:18

- Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame. Rev. 16:15

4. For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life.

- He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from off all faces; and the rebuke of his people shall he take away from off all the earth: for the LORD hath spoken it. Isa. 25:8

- But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. Rom. 8:11

- For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. 1 Cor. 15:53

5. Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit.

- The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: Rom. 8:16

- Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts. 2 Cor. 1:22

- And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. Eph. 4:30

6. Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord:

- For we are strangers before thee, and sojourners, as were all our fathers: our days on the earth are as a shadow, and there is none abiding. 1 Chron. 29:15

- Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident. Ps. 27:3

- These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. Heb. 11:13

7. (For we walk by faith, not by sight:)

- But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it. Rom. 8:25

- For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. 1 Cor. 13:12

- Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Heb. 11:1

8. We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

- And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. John 14:3

- For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better: Phil. 1:23

- Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. 1 Thess. 4:17

9. Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him.

- Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord. 1 Cor. 15:58

- Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief. Heb. 4:11

- Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear: Heb. 12:28

10. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

- I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings. Jer. 17:10

- For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works. Matt. 16:27

- Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. 1 Cor. 3:13

11. Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.

- For destruction from God was a terror to me, and by reason of his highness I could not endure. Job 31:23

- But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God. 2 Cor. 4:2

- Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus: Col. 1:28

12. For we commend not ourselves again unto you, but give you occasion to glory on our behalf, that ye may have somewhat to answer them which glory in appearance, and not in heart.

- Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips. Prov. 27:2

- As also ye have acknowledged us in part, that we are your rejoicing, even as ye also are our's in the day of the Lord Jesus. 2 Cor. 1:14

- Do we begin again to commend ourselves? or need we, as some others, epistles of commendation to you, or letters of commendation from you? 2 Cor. 3:1

13. For whether we be beside ourselves, it is to God: or whether we be sober, it is for your cause.

- And when his friends heard of it, they went out to lay hold on him: for they said, He is beside himself. Mark 3:21

- Would to God ye could bear with me a little in my folly: and indeed bear with me. 2 Cor. 11:1

- That which I speak, I speak it not after the Lord, but as it were foolishly, in this confidence of boasting. 2 Cor. 11:17

14. For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead:

- For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. Rom. 5:6

- But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many. Rom. 5:15

- Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Rom. 6:3

15. And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.

- For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord's. Rom. 14:8

- I am crucified with Christ: neverthless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. Gal. 2:20

- Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him. 1 Thess. 5:10

16. Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more.

- He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. Matt. 10:37

- There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. Gal. 3:28

- My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons. James 2:1

17. Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

- Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. John 3:3

- But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord. 2 Cor. 3:18

- For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature. Gal. 6:15

18. And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;

- For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. Rom. 5:10

- And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for our's only, but also for the sins of the whole world. 1 John 2:2

- Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 1 John 4:10

19. To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

- Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; Rom. 3:25

- He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? Rom. 8:32

- And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven. Col. 1:20

20. Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.

- Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else. Isa. 45:22

- For the priest's lips should keep knowledge, and they should seek the law at his mouth: for he is the messenger of the LORD of hosts. Mal. 2:7
