Moreover, brethren, we do you to wit of the grace of God bestowed on the churches of Macedonia; - Who, when he came, and had seen the grace of God, was glad, and exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord. Acts 11:23 - And a vision appeared to Paul in the night; There stood a man of Macedonia, and prayed him, saying, Come over into Macedonia, and help us. Acts 16:9 - For it hath pleased them of Macedonia and Achaia to make a certain contribution for the poor saints which are at Jerusalem. Rom. 15:26 2. How that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded unto the riches of their liberality. - The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself. Prov. 11:25 - For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living. Mark 12:44 - Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness. Rom. 12:8 3. For to their power, I bear record, yea, and beyond their power they were willing of themselves; - Take ye from among you an offering unto the LORD: whosoever is of a willing heart, let him bring it, an offering of the LORD; gold, and silver, and brass, Ex. 35:5 - The children of Israel brought a willing offering unto the LORD, every man and woman, whose heart made them willing to bring for all manner of work, which the LORD had commanded to be made by the hand of Moses. Ex. 35:29 - For I mean not that other men be eased, and ye burdened: 2 Cor. 8:13 4. Praying us with much intreaty that we would receive the gift, and take upon us the fellowship of the ministering to the saints. - Then the disciples, every man according to his ability, determined to send relief unto the brethren which dwelt in Judaea: Acts 11:29 - For it hath pleased them of Macedonia and Achaia to make a certain contribution for the poor saints which are at Jerusalem. Rom. 15:26 - For as touching the ministering to the saints, it is superfluous for me to write to you: 2 Cor. 9:1 5. And this they did, not as we hoped, but first gave their own selves to the Lord, and unto us by the will of God. - Therefore also I have lent him to the LORD; as long as he liveth he shall be lent to the LORD. And he worshipped the LORD there. 1 Sam. 1:28 - Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. Rom. 6:13 - I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. Rom. 12:1 6. Insomuch that we desired Titus, that as he had begun, so he would also finish in you the same grace also. - But thanks be to God, which put the same earnest care into the heart of Titus for you. 2 Cor. 8:16 - Therefore I thought it necessary to exhort the brethren, that they would go before unto you, and make up beforehand your bounty, whereof ye had notice before, that the same might be ready, as a matter of bounty, and not as of covetousness. 2 Cor. 9:5 - I desired Titus, and with him I sent a brother. Did Titus make a gain of you? walked we not in the same spirit? walked we not in the same steps? 2 Cor. 12:18 7. Therefore, as ye abound in every thing, in faith, and utterance, and knowledge, and in all diligence, and in your love to us, see that ye abound in this grace also. - And I myself also am persuaded of you, my brethren, that ye also are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, able also to admonish one another. Rom. 15:14 - That in every thing ye are enriched by him, in all utterance, and in all knowledge; 1 Cor. 1:5 - And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work: 2 Cor. 9:8 8. I speak not by commandment, but by occasion of the forwardness of others, and to prove the sincerity of your love. - Then said the LORD unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no. Ex. 16:4 - That through them I may prove Israel, whether they will keep the way of the LORD to walk therein, as their fathers did keep it, or not. Judg. 2:22 - But I speak this by permission, and not of commandment. 1 Cor. 7:6 9. For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich. - And Jesus saith unto him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head. Matt. 8:20 - Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many. Matt. 20:28 - But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: Phil. 2:7 10. And herein I give my advice: for this is expedient for you, who have begun before, not only to do, but also to be forward a year ago. - He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again. Prov. 19:17 - And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward. Matt. 10:42 - For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. Phil. 2:13 11. Now therefore perform the doing of it; that as there was a readiness to will, so there may be a performance also out of that which ye have. - Cast thy bread upon the waters: for thou shalt find it after many days. Eccles. 11:1 - Then the disciples, every man according to his ability, determined to send relief unto the brethren which dwelt in Judaea: Acts 11:29 - For I know the forwardness of your mind, for which I boast of you to them of Macedonia, that Achaia was ready a year ago; and your zeal hath provoked very many. 2 Cor. 9:2 12. For if there be first a willing mind, it is accepted according to that a man hath, and not according to that he hath not. - Speak unto the children of Israel, that they bring me an offering: of every man that giveth it willingly with his heart ye shall take my offering. Ex. 25:2 - Take ye from among you an offering unto the LORD: whosoever is of a willing heart, let him bring it, an offering of the LORD; gold, and silver, and brass, Ex. 35:5 - Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. 2 Cor. 9:7 13. For I mean not that other men be eased, and ye burdened: - And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need. Acts 2:45 - Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold, Acts 4:34 - For it hath pleased them of Macedonia and Achaia to make a certain contribution for the poor saints which are at Jerusalem. Rom. 15:26 14. But by an equality, that now at this time your abundance may be a supply for their want, that their abundance also may be a supply for your want: that there may be equality: - If there be among you a poor man of one of thy brethren within any of thy gates in thy land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not harden thine heart, nor shut thine hand from thy poor brother: Deut. 15:7 - For the administration of this service not only supplieth the want of the saints, but is abundant also by many thanksgivings unto God; 2 Cor. 9:12 - But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? 1 John 3:17 15. As it is written, He that had gathered much had nothing over; and he that had gathered little had no lack. - And when they did mete it with an omer, he that gathered much had nothing over, and he that gathered little had no lack; they gathered every man according to his eating. Ex. 16:18 - The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. Ps. 23:1 - And he said unto them, When I sent you without purse, and scrip, and shoes, lacked ye any thing? And they said, Nothing. Luke 22:35 16. But thanks be to God, which put the same earnest care into the heart of Titus for you. - Blessed be the LORD God of our fathers, which hath put such a thing as this in the king's heart, to beautify the house of the LORD which is in Jerusalem: Ezra 7:27 - And I arose in the night, I and some few men with me; neither told I any man what my God had put in my heart to do at Jerusalem: neither was there any beast with me, save the beast that I rode upon. Neh. 2:12 - For I have no man likeminded, who will naturally care for your state. Phil. 2:20 17. And we have sent with him the brother, whose praise is in the gospel throughout all the churches; - And there accompanied him into Asia Sopater of Berea; and of the Thessalonians, Aristarchus and Secundus; and Gaius of Derbe, and Timotheus; and of Asia, Tychicus and Trophimus. Acts 20:4 - Who have for my life laid down their own necks: unto whom not only I give thanks, but also all the churches of the Gentiles. Rom. 16:4 - I desired Titus, and with him I sent a brother. Did Titus make a gain of you? walked we not in the same spirit? walked we not in the same steps? 2 Cor. 12:18 19. And not that only, but who was also chosen of the churches to travel with us with this grace, which is administered by us to the glory of the same Lord, and declaration of your ready mind: - Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business. Acts 6:3 - Which also they did, and sent it to the elders by the hands of Barnabas and Saul. Acts 11:30 - And when I come, whomsoever ye shall approve by your letters, them will I send to bring your liberality unto Jerusalem. 1 Cor. 16:3 20. Avoiding this, that no man should blame us in this abundance which is administered by us: - Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves. Matt. 10:16 - Let not then your good be evil spoken of: Rom. 14:16 - Giving no offence in any thing, that the ministry be not blamed: 2 Cor. 6:3 21. Providing for honest things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men. - And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void to offence toward God, and toward men. Acts 24:16 - Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. Rom. 12:17 - For he that in these things serveth Christ is acceptable to God, and approved of men. Rom. 14:18 22. And we have sent with them our brother, whom we have oftentimes proved diligent in many things, but now much more diligent, upon the great confidence which I have in you. - Great is my boldness of speech toward you, great is my glorying of you: I am filled with comfort, I am exceeding joyful in all our tribulation. 2 Cor. 7:4 - And we have sent with him the brother, whose praise is in the gospel throughout all the churches; 2 Cor. 8:18 - But ye know the proof of him, that, as a son with the father, he hath served with me in the gospel. Phil. 2:22 23. Whether any do enquire of Titus, he is my partner and fellowhelper concerning you: or our brethren be enquired of, they are the messengers of the churches, and the glory of Christ. - Insomuch that we desired Titus, that as he had begun, so he would also finish in you the same grace also. 2 Cor. 8:6 - Yet I supposed it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother, and companion in labour, and fellowsoldier, but your messenger, and he that ministered to my wants. Phil. 2:25 - If thou count me therefore a partner, receive him as myself. Philem. 1:17 24. Wherefore shew ye to them, and before the churches, the proof of your love, and of our boasting on your behalf. - Great is my boldness of speech toward you, great is my glorying of you: I am filled with comfort, I am exceeding joyful in all our tribulation. 2 Cor. 7:4 - For if I have boasted any thing to him of you, I am not ashamed; but as we spake all things to you in truth, even so our boasting, which I made before Titus, is found a truth. 2 Cor. 7:14 - I speak not by commandment, but by occasion of the forwardness of others, and to prove the sincerity of your love. 2 Cor. 8:8 |
