1. The elder unto the wellbeloved Gaius, whom I love in the truth.

- And the whole city was filled with confusion: and having caught Gaius and Aristarchus, men of Macedonia, Paul's companions in travel, they rushed with one accord into the theatre. Acts 19:29

- And there accompanied him into Asia Sopater of Berea; and of the Thessalonians, Aristarchus and Secundus; and Gaius of Derbe, and Timotheus; and of Asia, Tychicus and Trophimus. Acts 20:4

- Gaius mine host, and of the whole church, saluteth you. Erastus the chamberlain of the city saluteth you, and Quartus a brother. Rom. 16:23

2. Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.

- And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. Ps. 1:3

- But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Matt. 6:33

- The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. John 10:10

3. For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth.

- But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: Eph. 4:15

- For ye are our glory and joy. 1 Thess. 2:20

- I rejoiced greatly that I found of thy children walking in truth, as we have received a commandment from the Father. 2 John 1:4

4. I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.

- The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him. Prov. 23:24

- For though ye have ten thousand instructers in Christ, yet have ye not many fathers: for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel. 1 Cor. 4:15

- My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you, Gal. 4:19

5. Beloved, thou doest faithfully whatsoever thou doest to the brethren, and to strangers;

- Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season? Matt. 24:45

- Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality. Rom. 12:13

- Use hospitality one to another without grudging. 1 Pet. 4:9

6. Which have borne witness of thy charity before the church: whom if thou bring forward on their journey after a godly sort, thou shalt do well:

- And it may be that I will abide, yea, and winter with you, that ye may bring me on my journey whithersoever I go. 1 Cor. 16:6

- And to pass by you into Macedonia, and to come again out of Macedonia unto you, and of you to be brought on my way toward Judaea. 2 Cor. 1:16

- That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; Col. 1:10

7. Because that for his name's sake they went forth, taking nothing of the Gentiles.

- But he said, As the LORD liveth, before whom I stand, I will receive none. And he urged him to take it; but he refused. 2 Kings 5:16

- He saith, Yes. And when he was come into the house, Jesus prevented him, saying, What thinkest thou, Simon? of whom do the kings of the earth take custom or tribute? of their own children, or of strangers? Matt. 17:25

- But be it so, I did not burden you: nevertheless, being crafty, I caught you with guile. 2 Cor. 12:16

8. We therefore ought to receive such, that we might be fellowhelpers to the truth.

- He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me. Matt. 10:40

- And Jesus, which is called Justus, who are of the circumcision. These only are my fellowworkers unto the kingdom of God, which have been a comfort unto me. Col. 4:11

- And sent Timotheus, our brother, and minister of God, and our fellowlabourer in the gospel of Christ, to establish you, and to comfort you concerning your faith: 1 Thess. 3:2

9. I wrote unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not.

- And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet. Matt. 10:14

- And there was also a strife among them, which of them should be accounted the greatest. Luke 22:24

- Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Phil. 2:3

10. Wherefore, if I come, I will remember his deeds which he doeth, prating against us with malicious words: and not content therewith, neither doth he himself receive the brethren, and forbiddeth them that would, and casteth them out of the church.

- But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in. Matt. 23:13

- I told you before, and foretell you, as if I were present, the second time; and being absent now I write to them which heretofore have sinned, and to all other, that, if I come again, I will not spare: 2 Cor. 13:2

- And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. Eph. 5:11

11. Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.

- Depart from evil, and do good; and dwell for evermore. Ps. 37:27

- Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil; Isa. 1:16

- Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him. 1 John 3:6

12. Demetrius hath good report of all men, and of the truth itself: yea, and we also bear record; and ye know that our record is true.

- For a certain man named Demetrius, a silversmith, which made silver shrines for Diana, brought no small gain unto the craftsmen; Acts 19:24

- And one Ananias, a devout man according to the law, having a good report of all the Jews which dwelt there, Acts 22:12

- Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil. 1 Tim. 3:7

13. I had many things to write, but I will not with ink and pen write unto thee:

- Then Baruch answered them, He pronounced all these words unto me with his mouth, and I wrote them with ink in the book. Jer. 36:18

- And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen. John 21:25

- Having many things to write unto you, I would not write with paper and ink: but I trust to come unto you, and speak face to face, that our joy may be full. 2 John 1:12

14. But I trust I shall shortly see thee, and we shall speak face to face. Peace be to thee. Our friends salute thee. Greet the friends by name.

- And he said, Peace be to you, fear not: your God, and the God of your father, hath given you treasure in your sacks: I had your money. And he brought Simeon out unto them. Gen. 43:23

- To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out. John 10:3

- Greet ye one another with a kiss of charity. Peace be with you all that are in Christ Jesus. Amen. 1 Pet. 5:14
