Acts 1

1. The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,

- And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people. Matt. 4:23

- It seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write unto thee in order, most excellent Theophilus, Luke 1:3

- And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people: Luke 24:19

2. Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen:

- Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Matt. 28:19

- And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. Luke 24:47

- And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. Acts 1:9

3. To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:

- Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, Luke 24:45

- And he was seen many days of them which came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are his witnesses unto the people. Acts 13:31

- After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. 1 Cor. 15:6

4. And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.

- And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high. Luke 24:49

- And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; John 14:16

- Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear. Acts 2:33

5. For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

- For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring: Isa. 44:3

- I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire: Matt. 3:11

- And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. Acts 2:4

6. When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?

- And I will restore thy judges as at the first, and thy counsellors as at the beginning: afterward thou shalt be called, The city of righteousness, the faithful city. Isa. 1:26

- And he said unto her, What wilt thou? She saith unto him, Grant that these my two sons may sit, the one on thy right hand, and the other on the left, in thy kingdom. Matt. 20:21

- But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, to day is the third day since these things were done. Luke 24:21

7. And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.

- But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. Matt. 24:36

- But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. 1 Thess. 5:1

- But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. 2 Pet. 3:10

8. But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

- Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Matt. 28:19

9. And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.

- So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God. Mark 16:19

- And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven. Luke 24:51

- Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen. Rev. 1:7

10. And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;

- And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand: and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him, Art thou for us, or for our adversaries? Josh. 5:13

- And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments: Luke 24:4

- And seeth two angels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain. John 20:12

11. Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

- For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works. Matt. 16:27

- For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 1 Thess. 4:16

- Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen. Rev. 1:7

12. Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day's journey.

- And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south. Zech. 14:4

- And when they drew nigh unto Jerusalem, and were come to Bethphage, unto the mount of Olives, then sent Jesus two disciples, Matt. 21:1

- And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy: Luke 24:52

13. And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James.

- Now the names of the twelve apostles are these; The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother; Matt. 10:2

- Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the publican; James the son of Alphaeus, and Lebbaeus, whose surname was Thaddaeus; Matt. 10:3

- And he shall shew you a large upper room furnished: there make ready. Luke 22:12

14. These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.

- Is not this the carpenter's son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas? Matt. 13:55

- And many women were there beholding afar off, which followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering unto him: Matt. 27:55

- For neither did his brethren believe in him. John 7:5

15. And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples, and said, (the number of names together were about an hundred and twenty,)

- After these things the LORD appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come. Luke 10:1

- But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren. Luke 22:32

- After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. 1 Cor. 15:6

16. Men and brethren, this scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost by the mouth of David spake before concerning Judas, which was guide to them that took Jesus.

- Let his days be few; and let another take his office. Ps. 109:8

- Let their habitation be desolate; and let none dwell in their tents. Ps. 69:25

- And while he yet spake, lo, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and elders of the people. Matt. 26:47

17. For he was numbered with us, and had obtained part of this ministry.

- Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil? John 6:70

- That he may take part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place. Acts 1:25

- I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars: Rev. 2:2

18. Now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out.

- For I will promote thee unto very great honor, and I will do whatsoever thou sayest unto me: come therefore, I pray thee, curse me this people. Num. 22:17

- And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself. Matt. 27:5

- And they took counsel, and bought with them the potter's field, to bury strangers in. Matt. 27:7

19. And it was known unto all the dwellers at Jerusalem; insomuch as that field is called in their proper tongue, Aceldama, that is to say, The field of blood.

- And the LORD said unto me, Cast it unto the potter: a goodly price that I was prised at of them. And I took the thirty pieces of silver, and cast them to the potter in the house of the LORD. Zech. 11:13

- And the chief priests took the silver pieces, and said, It is not lawful for to put them into the treasury, because it is the price of blood. Matt. 27:6

- So they took the money, and did as they were taught: and this saying is commonly reported among the Jews until this day. Matt. 28:15

20. For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be desolate, and let no man dwell therein: and his bishoprick let another take.

- Let his days be few; and let another take his office. Ps. 109:8

- Let their habitation be desolate; and let none dwell in their tents. Ps. 69:25

- Then said he unto me, This is the curse that goeth forth over the face of the whole earth: for every one that stealeth shall be cut off as on this side according to it; and every one that sweareth shall be cut off as on that side according to it. Zech. 5:3

21. Wherefore of these men which have companied with us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us,

- Which may go out before them, and which may go in before them, and which may lead them out, and which may bring them in; that the congregation of the LORD be not as sheep which have no shepherd. Num. 27:17

- And ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning. John 15:27

- Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil. 1 Tim. 3:6

22. Beginning from the baptism of John, unto that same day that he was taken up from us, must one be ordained to be a witness with us of his resurrection.

- Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen: Acts 1:2

- But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. Acts 1:8

- And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all. Acts 4:33

23. And they appointed two, Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias.

- After these things the LORD appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come. Luke 10:1

- And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch: Acts 6:5

- Then pleased it the apostles and elders with the whole church, to send chosen men of their own company to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas; namely, Judas surnamed Barsabas and Silas, chief men among the brethren: Acts 15:22

24. And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, which knowest the hearts of all men, shew whether of these two thou hast chosen,

- But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart. 1 Sam. 16:7

- O lord, thou hast searched me, and known me. Ps. 139:1

- And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us; Acts 15:8

25. That he may take part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place.

- So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the LORD, even against the word of the LORD, which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to enquire of it; 1 Chron. 10:13

- Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: Matt. 25:41

- For he was numbered with us, and had obtained part of this ministry. Acts 1:17

26. And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.

- And Aaron shall cast lots upon the two goats; one lot for the LORD, and the other lot for the scapegoat. Lev. 16:8

- When he had caused the tribe of Benjamin to come near by their families, the family of Matri was taken, and Saul the son of Kish was taken: and when they sought him, he could not be found. 1 Sam. 10:21

- For I am the least of the apostles, that am not meet to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 1 Cor. 15:9
