1. Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;

- That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. Matt. 5:45

- Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect. Matt. 5:48

- But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; 1 Pet. 1:15

2. And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.

- And the LORD smelled a sweet savor; and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man's sake; for the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done. Gen. 8:21

- I am crucified with Christ: neverthless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. Gal. 2:20

- Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. 1 John 3:16

3. But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;

- And in all things that I have said unto you be circumspect: and make no mention of the name of other gods, neither let it be heard out of thy mouth. Ex. 23:13

- Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid. 1 Cor. 6:15

- Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Gal. 5:19

4. Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.

- Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. Eph. 4:29

- But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. Col. 3:8

- In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. 1 Thess. 5:18

5. For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

- Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God. Acts 8:21

- Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, 1 Cor. 6:9

- For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie. Rev. 22:15

6. Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.

- For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Let not your prophets and your diviners, that be in the midst of you, deceive you, neither hearken to your dreams which ye cause to be dreamed. Jer. 29:8

- For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; Rom. 1:18

- Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. Col. 2:8

7. Be not ye therefore partakers with them.

- And he spake unto the congregation, saying, Depart, I pray you, from the tents of these wicked men, and touch nothing of theirs, lest ye be consumed in all their sins. Num. 16:26

- My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not. Prov. 1:10

- Lay hands suddenly on no man, neither be partaker of other men's sins: keep thyself pure. 1 Tim. 5:22

8. For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:

- Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Matt. 5:14

- While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light. These things spake Jesus, and departed, and did hide himself from them. John 12:36

- That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world; Phil. 2:15

9. (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)

- But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Gal. 5:22

- Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God. Phil. 1:11

- Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God. 3 John 1:11

10. Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.

- And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Rom. 12:2

- That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ. Phil. 1:10

- Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. 1 Thess. 5:21

11. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.

- Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother. Matt. 18:15

- Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear. 1 Tim. 5:20

- Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. 2 Tim. 4:2

12. For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.

- For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil. Eccles. 12:14

- For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: Rom. 1:26

- In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel. Rom. 2:16

13. But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.

- For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. John 3:20

- But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God. John 3:21

- Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God. 1 Cor. 4:5

14. Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.

- Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee. Isa. 60:1

- And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. Rom. 13:11

- If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Col. 3:1

15. See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,

- The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way: but the folly of fools is deceit. Prov. 14:8

- Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves. Matt. 10:16

- For your obedience is come abroad unto all men. I am glad therefore on your behalf: but yet I would have you wise unto that which is good, and simple concerning evil. Rom. 16:19

16. Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

- Whoso loveth instruction loveth knowledge: but he that hateth reproof is brutish. Prov. 12:1

- Therefore the prudent shall keep silence in that time; for it is an evil time. Amos 5:13

- Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time. Col. 4:5

17. Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.

- And that servant, which knew his lord's will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. Luke 12:47

- And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Rom. 12:2

- For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication: 1 Thess. 4:3

18. And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

- And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: Joel 2:28

- If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him? Luke 11:13

- And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares. Luke 21:34

19. Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;

- Sing unto him a new song; play skilfully with a loud noise. Ps. 33:3

- And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. Acts 16:25

- Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. Col. 3:16

20. Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;

- My mouth shall speak the praise of the LORD: and let all flesh bless his holy name for ever and ever. Ps. 145:21

- In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. 1 Thess. 5:18

- By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name. Heb. 13:15

21. Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.

- Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Phil. 2:3

- Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme; 1 Pet. 2:13

- Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. 1 Pet. 5:5

22. Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.

- Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee. Gen. 3:16

- To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed. Titus 2:5

- Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives; 1 Pet. 3:1

23. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.

- But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God. 1 Cor. 11:3

- And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. Col. 1:18

- Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body's sake, which is the church: Col. 1:24

24. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.

- Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband. Eph. 5:33

- Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord. Col. 3:18

- Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives; 1 Pet. 3:1

25. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

- Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father: Gal. 1:4

- Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them. Col. 3:19

- Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered. 1 Pet. 3:7

26. That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

- Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you. John 15:3

- Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. John 17:17

- Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Titus 3:5

27. That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

- Thou art all fair, my love; there is no spot in thee. Song 4:7

- For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ. 2 Cor. 11:2

- And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. Rev. 21:2

28. So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.

- And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Gen. 2:23

- Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. Gen. 2:24

- And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. Matt. 22:39

29. For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:

- If he take him another wife; her food, her raiment, and her duty of marriage, shall he not diminish. Ex. 21:10

- I will feed them in a good pasture, and upon the high mountains of Israel shall their fold be: there shall they lie in a good fold, and in a fat pasture shall they feed upon the mountains of Israel. Ezek. 34:14

- But we were gentle among you, even as a nurse cherisheth her children: 1 Thess. 2:7

30. For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.

- And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Gen. 2:23

- So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another. Rom. 12:5

- Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular. 1 Cor. 12:27

31. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.

- Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. Gen. 2:24

- And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Matt. 19:5

- What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh. 1 Cor. 6:16

32. This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.

- For as a young man marrieth a virgin, so shall thy sons marry thee: and as the bridegroom rejoiceth over the bride, so shall thy God rejoice over thee. Isa. 62:5

- For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ. 2 Cor. 11:2

- Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready. Rev. 19:7

33. Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.

- Then Bathsheba bowed with her face to the earth, and did reverence to the king, and said, Let my lord king David live for ever. 1 Kings 1:31

- And when the king's decree which he shall make shall be published throughout all his empire, (for it is great,) all the wives shall give to their husbands honour, both to great and small. Est. 1:20

- Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement. 1 Pet. 3:6
