↥ Gal. 3NT with xrefs 1. O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you? - And Samuel said to Saul, Thou hast done foolishly: thou hast not kept the commandment of the LORD thy God, which he commanded thee: for now would the LORD have established thy kingdom upon Israel for ever. 1 Sam. 13:13 - And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: Matt. 7:26 - See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, Eph. 5:15 2. This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? - Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Acts 2:38 - So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Rom. 10:17 - In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Eph. 1:13 3. Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh? - But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage? Gal. 4:9 - For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh. Phil. 3:3 - Which stood only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation. Heb. 9:10 4. Have ye suffered so many things in vain? if it be yet in vain. - But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die. Ezek. 18:24 - If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame. Heb. 6:6 - Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward. 2 John 1:8 5. He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? - And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul: Acts 19:11 - So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Rom. 10:17 - To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: 1 Cor. 12:10 6. Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness. - And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness. Gen. 15:6 - For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness. Rom. 4:3 - And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. James 2:23 7. Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham. - They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham. John 8:39 - And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised: that he might be the father of all them that believe, though they be not circumcised; that righteousness might be imputed unto them also: Rom. 4:11 - And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise. Gal. 3:29 8. And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed. - And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed. Gen. 12:3 - Ye are the children of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying unto Abraham, And in thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed. Acts 3:25 - Seeing it is one God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith. Rom. 3:30 9. So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham. - And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised: that he might be the father of all them that believe, though they be not circumcised; that righteousness might be imputed unto them also: Rom. 4:11 - Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all, Rom. 4:16 - And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise. Gal. 3:29 10. For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them. - Cursed be he that confirmeth not all the words of this law to do them. And all the people shall say, Amen. Deut. 27:26 - But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors. James 2:9 - For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. James 2:10 11. But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith. - Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith. Hab. 2:4 - For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith. Rom. 1:17 - Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified. Gal. 2:16 12. And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them. - Ye shall therefore keep my statutes, and my judgments: which if a man do, he shall live in them: I am the LORD. Lev. 18:5 - And I gave them my statutes, and shewed them my judgments, which if a man do, he shall even live in them. Ezek. 20:11 - For Moses describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall live by them. Rom. 10:5 13. Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: - His body shall not remain all night upon the tree, but thou shalt in any wise bury him that day; (for he that is hanged is accursed of God;) that thy land be not defiled, which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance. Deut. 21:23 - For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: Rom. 8:3 - For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. 2 Cor. 5:21 14. That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. - Until the spirit be poured upon us from on high, and the wilderness be a fruitful field, and the fruitful field be counted for a forest. Isa. 32:15 - For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring: Isa. 44:3 - And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: Joel 2:28 15. Brethren, I speak after the manner of men; Though it be but a man's covenant, yet if it be confirmed, no man disannulleth, or addeth thereto. - And yet for all that, when they be in the land of their enemies, I will not cast them away, neither will I abhor them, to destroy them utterly, and to break my covenant with them: for I am the LORD their God. Lev. 26:44 - I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness. Rom. 6:19 - For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth. Heb. 9:17 16. Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ. - And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. Gen. 3:15 - For all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever. Gen. 13:15 - And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; Gen. 26:4 17. And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect. - And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years; Gen. 15:13 - Now the sojourning of the children of Israel, who dwelt in Egypt, was four hundred and thirty years. Ex. 12:40 - Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye. Mark 7:13 18. For if the inheritance be of the law, it is no more of promise: but God gave it to Abraham by promise. - For if they which are of the law be heirs, faith is made void, and the promise made of none effect: Rom. 4:14 - And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then it is no more grace: otherwise work is no more work. Rom. 11:6 - And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise. Heb. 6:15 19. Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator. - Because the law worketh wrath: for where no law is, there is no transgression. Rom. 4:15 - Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound: Rom. 5:20 - What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet. Rom. 7:7 20. Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one. - In the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates: Gen. 15:18 - Neither is there any daysman betwixt us, that might lay his hand upon us both. Job 9:33 - For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; 1 Tim. 2:5 21. Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law. - Ye shall therefore keep my statutes, and my judgments: which if a man do, he shall live in them: I am the LORD. Lev. 18:5 - Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. Rom. 3:20 - I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain. Gal. 2:21 22. But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe. - What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin; Rom. 3:9 - To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus. Rom. 3:26 - For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that he might have mercy upon all. Rom. 11:32 23. But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed. - Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. Rom. 3:19 - But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter. Rom. 7:6 - But is under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father. Gal. 4:2 24. Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. - And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses. Acts 13:39 - Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: Rom. 3:22 - For though ye have ten thousand instructers in Christ, yet have ye not many fathers: for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel. 1 Cor. 4:15 25. But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster. - An instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, which hast the form of knowledge and of the truth in the law. Rom. 2:20 - For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. Rom. 6:14 - For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth. Rom. 10:4 26. For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. - But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: John 1:12 - For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. Rom. 8:15 - To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. Gal. 4:5 27. For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. - Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Rom. 6:3 - But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof. Rom. 13:14 - And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. Eph. 4:24 28. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. - That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. John 17:21 - For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. 1 Cor. 12:13 - Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all. Col. 3:11 29. And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise. - And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. Rom. 8:17 - Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called. Rom. 9:7 - Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham. Gal. 3:7 |
