Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. - Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. Phil. 2:12 - Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief. Heb. 4:11 - Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled; Heb. 12:15 2. For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. - (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified. Rom. 2:13 - Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come. 1 Cor. 10:11 - But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. Gen. 2:2 - It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed. Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief: - For I say unto you, That none of those men which were bidden shall taste of my supper. Luke 14:24 - Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles. Acts 13:46 - So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief. Heb. 3:19 7. Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts. - For he is our God; and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. To day if ye will hear his voice, Ps. 95:7 - And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation; Acts 17:26 - Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice, Heb. 3:7 8. For if Joshua had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day. - And now the LORD your God hath given rest unto your brethren, as he promised them: therefore now return ye, and get you unto your tents, and unto the land of your possession, which Moses the servant of the LORD gave you on the other side Jordan. Josh. 22:4 - Which also our fathers that came after brought in with Jesus into the possession of the Gentiles, whom God drave out before the face of our fathers, unto the days of David; Acts 7:45 - These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. Heb. 11:13 9. There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. - So the people rested on the seventh day. Ex. 16:30 - And as many as walk according to this rule, peace be on them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God. Gal. 6:16 - And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. Rev. 21:4 10. For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. - And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. - So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. Isa. 55:11 - Is not my word like as a fire? saith the LORD; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces? Jer. 23:29 - He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day. John 12:48 13. Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do. - But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart. 1 Sam. 16:7 - The LORD looketh from heaven; he beholdeth all the sons of men. Ps. 33:13 - For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil. Eccles. 12:14 14. Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. - Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec. Heb. 6:20 - For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens; Heb. 7:26 - Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;) Heb. 10:23 15. For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. - And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth. Isa. 53:9 - Then was Jesus led up of the spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. Matt. 4:1 - For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted. Heb. 2:18 16. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. - In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him. Eph. 3:12 - Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, Heb. 10:19 - Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God. 1 John 3:21 |
