For every high priest taken from among men is ordained for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins: - And take thou unto thee Aaron thy brother, and his sons with him, from among the children of Israel, that he may minister unto me in the priest's office, even Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar, Aaron's sons. Ex. 28:1 - For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; 1 Tim. 2:5 - Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people. Heb. 2:17 2. Who can have compassion on the ignorant, and on them that are out of the way; for that he himself also is compassed with infirmity. - But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: Phil. 2:7 - For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted. Heb. 2:18 - For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Heb. 4:15 3. And by reason hereof he ought, as for the people, so also for himself, to offer for sins. - If the priest that is anointed do sin according to the sin of the people; then let him bring for his sin, which he hath sinned, a young bullock without blemish unto the LORD for a sin offering. Lev. 4:3 - And Moses said unto Aaron, Go unto the altar, and offer thy sin offering, and thy burnt offering, and make an atonement for thyself, and for the people: and offer the offering of the people, and make an atonement for them; as the LORD commanded. Lev. 9:7 - Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people's: for this he did once, when he offered up himself. Heb. 7:27 4. So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten thee. - I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. Ps. 2:7 - And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Matt. 3:17 - Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God: John 8:54 6. As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec. - And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God. Gen. 14:18 - The LORD hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek. Ps. 110:4 - For he testifieth, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec. Heb. 7:17 7. Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared; - And he went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt. Matt. 26:39 - And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? Matt. 27:46 - Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. Matt. 27:50 8. Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; - And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; Rom. 5:3 - And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Phil. 2:8 - Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; 1 Pet. 4:1 9. And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him; - But Israel shall be saved in the LORD with an everlasting salvation: ye shall not be ashamed nor confounded world without end. Isa. 45:17 - When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost. John 19:30 - For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings. Heb. 2:10 10. Ps. 110:4 - Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec. Heb. 6:20 - Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually. Heb. 7:3 11. Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing. - And when Jesus knew it, he saith unto them, Why reason ye, because ye have no bread? perceive ye not yet, neither understand? have ye your heart yet hardened? Mark 8:17 - I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. John 16:12 - That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises. Heb. 6:12 12. For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. - I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able. 1 Cor. 3:2 - Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, Heb. 6:1 - As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: 1 Pet. 2:2 13. For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. - Brethren, be not children in understanding: howbeit in malice be ye children, but in understanding be men. 1 Cor. 14:20 - That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; Eph. 4:14 - Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. Col. 3:16 14. But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil. - For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. Gen. 3:5 - And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
