My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons. - Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment: thou shalt not respect the person of the poor, nor honor the person of the mighty: but in righteousness shalt thou judge thy neighbor. Lev. 19:15 - These things also belong to the wise. It is not good to have respect of persons in judgment. Prov. 24:23 - But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors. James 2:9 2. For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment; - But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? behold, they that wear soft clothing are in kings' houses. Matt. 11:8 - But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet: Luke 15:22 - If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those that are unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad? 1 Cor. 14:23 3. Luke 7:44 - And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? James 2:16 - These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaketh great swelling words, having men's persons in admiration because of advantage. Jude 1:16 4. Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts? - How much less to him that accepteth not the persons of princes, nor regardeth the rich more than the poor? for they all are the work of his hands. Job 34:19 - Therefore have I also made you contemptible and base before all the people, according as ye have not kept my ways, but have been partial in the law. Mal. 2:9 - Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man: Luke 18:2 5. Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him? - Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Matt. 5:3 - So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God. Luke 12:21 - For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: 1 Cor. 1:26 6. But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats? - He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker: but he that honoureth him hath mercy on the poor. Prov. 14:31 - And oppress not the widow, nor the fatherless, the stranger, nor the poor; and let none of you imagine evil against his brother in your heart. Zech. 7:10 - What? have ye not houses to eat and to drink in? or despise ye the church of God, and shame them that have not? What shall I say to you? shall I praise you in this? I praise you not. 1 Cor. 11:22 7. Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye are called? - Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. Deut. 27:26 - For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. Rom. 13:9 - For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them. Gal. 3:10 11. For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law. - Thou shalt not kill. Ex. 20:13 - Thou shalt not commit adultery. Ex. 20:14 - Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother. Mark 10:19 12. So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty. - So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man. Rom. 7:3 - For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. Rom. 8:2 - But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed. James 1:25 13. For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment. - Whoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself, but shall not be heard. Prov. 21:13 - Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. Matt. 5:7 - But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. Matt. 6:15 14. What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? - Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Matt. 7:21 - And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: Matt. 7:26 - By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith. Heb. 11:7 15. If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, - Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh? Isa. 58:7 - For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink: Matt. 25:42 - He answereth and saith unto them, He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath meat, let him do likewise. Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. - Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned: 1 Tim. 1:5 - For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also. James 2:26 - And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; 2 Pet. 1:5 18. Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. - Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. Matt. 7:17 - For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love. Gal. 5:6 - But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Heb. 11:6 19. Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. - And, behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time? Matt. 8:29 - Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God. Mark 1:24 - And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye? Acts 19:15 20. Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? - He judged the cause of the poor and needy; then it was well with him: was not this to know me? saith the LORD. Gen. 15:6 - Art not thou our God, who didst drive out the inhabitants of this land before thy people Israel, and gavest it to the seed of Abraham thy friend for ever? 2 Chron. 20:7 - But thou, Israel, art my servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, the seed of Abraham my friend. Isa. 41:8 24. Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only. - Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law. Rom. 3:28 - How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? Heb. 9:14 - Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. James 2:18 25. Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way? - Then she let them down by a cord through the window: for her house was upon the town wall, and she dwelt upon the wall. Josh. 2:15 - And Salmon begat Booz of Rachab; and Booz begat Obed of Ruth; and Obed begat Jesse; Matt. 1:5 - By faith the harlot Rahab perished not with them that believed not, when she had received the spies with peace. Heb. 11:31 26.
