When Jesus had spoken these words, he went forth with his disciples over the brook Cedron, where was a garden, into the which he entered, and his disciples. - And all the country wept with a loud voice, and all the people passed over: the king also himself passed over the brook Kidron, and all the people passed over, toward the way of the wilderness. 2 Sam. 15:23 - And the whole valley of the dead bodies, and of the ashes, and all the fields unto the brook of Kidron, unto the corner of the horse gate toward the east, shall be holy unto the LORD; it shall not be plucked up, nor thrown down any more for ever. Jer. 31:40 - Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder. Matt. 26:36 2. And Judas also, which betrayed him, knew the place: for Jesus ofttimes resorted thither with his disciples. - And Jesus entered into Jerusalem, and into the temple: and when he had looked round about upon all things, and now the eventide was come, he went out unto Bethany with the twelve. Ps. 41:9 - And while he yet spake, lo, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and elders of the people. Matt. 26:47 - Men and brethren, this scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost by the mouth of David spake before concerning Judas, which was guide to them that took Jesus. Jesus therefore, knowing all things that should come upon him, went forth, and said unto them, Whom seek ye? - Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end. John 17:12 10. Then Simon Peter having a sword drew it, and smote the high priest's servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant's name was Malchus. - And they said, Lord, behold, here are two swords. And he said unto them, It is enough. Luke 22:38 - When they which were about him saw what would follow, they said unto him, Lord, shall we smite with the sword? Luke 22:49 - And Jesus answered and said, Suffer ye thus far. And he touched his ear, and healed him. Luke 22:51 11. Then said Jesus unto Peter, Put up thy sword into the sheath: the cup which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it? - But Jesus said unto them, Ye know not what ye ask: can ye drink of the cup that I drink of? and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? Mark 10:38 - Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done. Luke 22:42 - For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Eph. 6:12 12. Then the band and the captain and officers of the Jews took Jesus, and bound him, - And they came to the place which God had told him of; and Abraham built an altar there, and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar upon the wood. Gen. 22:9 - And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem. Acts 9:2 - Then the chief captain came near, and took him, and commanded him to be bound with two chains; and demanded who he was, and what he had done. Acts 21:33 13. And led him away to Annas first; for he was father in law to Caiaphas, which was the high priest that same year. - And they that had laid hold on Jesus led him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were assembled. Matt. 26:57 - And this spake he not of himself: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation; John 11:51 - And Annas the high priest, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the kindred of the high priest, were gathered together at Jerusalem. Acts 4:6 14. Now Caiaphas was he, which gave counsel to the Jews, that it was expedient that one man should die for the people. - And consulted that they might take Jesus by subtilty, and kill him. Matt. 26:4 - Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not. John 11:50 - Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people's: for this he did once, when he offered up himself. Heb. 7:27 15. And Simon Peter followed Jesus, and so did another disciple: that disciple was known unto the high priest, and went in with Jesus into the palace of the high priest. - Then took they him, and led him, and brought him into the high priest's house. And Peter followed afar off. Luke 22:54 - Peter therefore went forth, and that other disciple, and came to the sepulchre. John 20:3 - This is the disciple which testifieth of these things, and wrote these things: and we know that his testimony is true. John 21:24 16. But Peter stood at the door without. Then went out that other disciple, which was known unto the high priest, and spake unto her that kept the door, and brought in Peter. - But Peter followed him afar off unto the high priest's palace, and went in, and sat with the servants, to see the end. Matt. 26:58 - To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out. And the servants and officers stood there, who had made a fire of coals; for it was cold: and they warmed themselves: and Peter stood with them, and warmed himself. - And Peter followed him afar off, even into the palace of the high priest: and he sat with the servants, and warmed himself at the fire. Mark 14:54 - And Simon Peter stood and warmed himself. They said therefore unto him, Art not thou also one of his disciples? He denied it, and said, I am not. John 18:25 - As soon then as they were come to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid thereon, and bread. John 21:9 19. The high priest then asked Jesus of his disciples, and of his doctrine. - And as he said these things unto them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to urge him vehemently, and to provoke him to speak of many things: Luke 11:53 - And they watched him, and sent forth spies, which should feign themselves just men, that they might take hold of his words, that so they might deliver him unto the power and authority of the governor. Luke 20:20 - And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, By what power, or by what name, have ye done this? Acts 4:7 20. Jesus answered him, I spake openly to the world; I ever taught in the synagogue, and in the temple, whither the Jews always resort; and in secret have I said nothing. - I have not spoken in secret, in a dark place of the earth: I said not unto the seed of Jacob, Seek ye me in vain: I the LORD speak righteousness, I declare things that are right. Isa. 45:19 - In that same hour said Jesus to the multitudes, Are ye come out as against a thief with swords and staves for to take me? I sat daily with you teaching in the temple, and ye laid no hold on me. Matt. 26:55 - But, lo, he speaketh boldly, and they say nothing unto him. Do the rulers know indeed that this is the very Christ? John 7:26 21. Why askest thou me? ask them which heard me, what I have said unto them: behold, they know what I said. - For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes. Matt. 7:29 - David therefore himself calleth him Lord; and whence is he then his son? And the common people heard him gladly. Mark 12:37 - The officers answered, Never man spake like this man. John 7:46 22. And when he had thus spoken, one of the officers which stood by struck Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying, Answerest thou the high priest so? - They have gaped upon me with their mouth; they have smitten me upon the cheek reproachfully; they have gathered themselves together against me. Job 16:10 - And the high priest Ananias commanded them that stood by him to smite him on the mouth. Acts 23:2 - For ye suffer, if a man bring you into bondage, if a man devour you, if a man take of you, if a man exalt himself, if a man smite you on the face. 2 Cor. 11:20 23. Jesus answered him, If I have spoken evil, bear witness of the evil: but if well, why smitest thou me? - But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also. Matt. 5:39 - For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God. 1 Pet. 2:20 - Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously: 1 Pet. 2:23 24. And Peter said, Man, I am not. Luke 22:58 26. One of the servants of the high priest, being his kinsman whose ear Peter cut off, saith, Did not I see thee in the garden with him? - And after a while came unto him they that stood by, and said to Peter, Surely thou also art one of them; for thy speech bewrayeth thee. Matt. 26:73 - And about the space of one hour after another confidently affirmed, saying, Of a truth this fellow also was with him: for he is a Galilaean. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. Luke 22:61 - Jesus answered him, Wilt thou lay down thy life for my sake? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, The cock shall not crow, till thou hast denied me thrice. John 13:38 28. Then led they Jesus from Caiaphas unto the hall of judgment: and it was early; and they themselves went not into the judgment hall, lest they should be defiled; but that they might eat the passover. - For a multitude of the people, even many of Ephraim, and Manasseh, Issachar, and Zebulun, had not cleansed themselves, yet did they eat the passover otherwise than it was written. But Hezekiah prayed for them, saying, The good LORD pardon every one 2 Chron. 30:18 - And he said unto them, Ye know how that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or come unto one of another nation; but God hath shewed me that I should not call any man common or unclean. Acts 10:28 - Saying, Thou wentest in to men uncircumcised, and didst eat with them. Acts 11:3 29. Pilate then went out unto them, and said, What accusation bring ye against this man? - And the governor said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified. Thine own nation and the chief priests have delivered thee unto me: what hast thou done? - And they set on for him by himself, and for them by themselves, and for the Egyptians, which did eat with him, by themselves: because the Egyptians might not eat bread with the Hebrews; for that is an abomination unto the Egyptians. Gen. 43:32 - And he spake before his brethren and the army of Samaria, and said, What do these feeble Jews? will they fortify themselves? will they sacrifice? will they make an end in a day? will they revive the stones out of the heaps of the rubbish which are burned? Neh. 4:2 - Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not. John 11:50 36. Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence. - And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed. Dan. 7:14 - When Jesus therefore perceived that they would come and take him by force, to make him a king, he departed again into a mountain himself alone. John 6:15 - And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world. John 8:23 37. Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice. - Jesus answered and said unto them, Though I bear record of myself, yet my record is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye cannot tell whence I come, and whither I go. John 8:14 - He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God. John 8:47 - We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error. 1 John 4:6 38. Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all. - But Jesus yet answered nothing; so that Pilate marvelled. Mark 15:5 - Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:6 - Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: 1 Pet. 2:22 39. But ye have a custom, that I should release unto you one at the passover: will ye therefore that I release unto you the King of the Jews? - Now at that feast the governor was wont to release unto the people a prisoner, whom they would. Matt. 27:15 - Therefore when they were gathered together, Pilate said unto them, Whom will ye that I release unto you? Barabbas, or Jesus which is called Christ? Matt. 27:17 - And the multitude crying aloud began to desire him to do as he had ever done unto them. Mark 15:8 40. Then cried they all again, saying, Not this man, but Barabbas. Now Barabbas was a robber. - And there was one named Barabbas, which lay bound with them that had made insurrection with him, who had committed murder in the insurrection. Mark 15:7 - But the chief priests moved the people, that he should rather release Barabbas unto them. Mark 15:11 - But ye denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted unto you; Acts 3:14 |
