1. After this there was a feast of the Jews; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

- Three items in the year all thy males shall appear before the LORD God. Ex. 23:17

- And the Jews' passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. John 2:13

- But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, Gal. 4:4

2. Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool, which is called in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda, having five porches.

- Then Eliashib the high priest rose up with his brethren the priests, and they builded the sheep gate; they sanctified it, and set up the doors of it; even unto the tower of Meah they sanctified it, unto the tower of Hananeel. Neh. 3:1

- And between the going up of the corner unto the sheep gate repaired the goldsmiths and the merchants. Neh. 3:32

- And as the lame man which was healed held Peter and John, all the people ran together unto them in the porch that is called Solomon's, greatly wondering. Acts 3:11

3. In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water.

- It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD. Lam. 3:26

- And great multitudes came unto him, having with them those that were lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others, and cast them down at Jesus' feet; and he healed them: Matt. 15:30

- And he entered again into the synagogue; and there was a man there which had a withered hand. Mark 3:1

4. For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had.

- They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. Ps. 91:12

- And he saith unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man. John 1:51

- Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation? Heb. 1:14

5. And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years.

- And a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any, Luke 8:43

- Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee. John 5:14

- And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth. John 9:1

6. When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole?

- I am sought of them that asked not for me; I am found of them that sought me not: I said, Behold me, behold me, unto a nation that was not called by my name. Isa. 65:1

- And Jesus answered and said unto him, What wilt thou that I should do unto thee? The blind man said unto him, Lord, that I might receive my sight. Mark 10:51

- For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Heb. 4:15

7. The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.

- I looked on my right hand, and beheld, but there was no man that would know me: refuge failed me; no man cared for my soul. Ps. 142:4

- For he shall deliver the needy when he crieth; the poor also, and him that hath no helper. Ps. 72:12

- For I have no man likeminded, who will naturally care for your state. Phil. 2:20

8. Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.

- But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (then saith he to the sick of the palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house. Matt. 9:6

- Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk. Acts 3:6

- And Peter said unto him, Aeneas, Jesus Christ maketh thee whole: arise, and make thy bed. And he arose immediately. Acts 9:34

9. And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath.

- And, behold, there was a man which had his hand withered. And they asked him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath days? that they might accuse him. Matt. 12:10

- If a man on the sabbath day receive circumcision, that the law of Moses should not be broken; are ye angry at me, because I have made a man every whit whole on the sabbath day? John 7:23

- And it was the sabbath day when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes. John 9:14

10. The Jews therefore said unto him that was cured, It is the sabbath day: it is not lawful for thee to carry thy bed.

- But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: Ex. 20:10

- And it came to pass, that when the gates of Jerusalem began to be dark before the sabbath, I commanded that the gates should be shut, and charged that they should not be opened till after the sabbath: and some of my servants set I at the gates, that there should no burden be brought in on the sabbath day. Neh. 13:19

- Thus saith the LORD; Take heed to yourselves, and bear no burden on the sabbath day, nor bring it in by the gates of Jerusalem; Jer. 17:21

11. He answered them, He that made me whole, the same said unto me, Take up thy bed, and walk.

- Whether is it easier to say to the sick of the palsy, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk? Mark 2:9

- He answered and said, A man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said unto me, Go to the pool of Siloam, and wash: and I went and washed, and I received sight. John 9:11

- Therefore said some of the Pharisees, This man is not of God, because he keepeth not the sabbath day. Others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such miracles? And there was a division among them. John 9:16

12. Then asked they him, What man is that which said unto thee, Take up thy bed, and walk?

- And they said one to another, Who hath done this thing? And when they inquired and asked, they said, Gideon the son of Joash hath done this thing. Judg. 6:29

- Then the Philistines said, Who hath done this? And they answered, Samson, the son in law of the Timnite, because he had taken his wife, and given her to his companion. And the Philistines came up, and burnt her and her father with fire. Judg. 15:6

- Who hath wrought and done it, calling the generations from the beginning? I the LORD, the first, and with the last; I am he. Isa. 41:4

13. And he that was healed wist not who it was: for Jesus had conveyed himself away, a multitude being in that place.

- But he passing through the midst of them went his way, Luke 4:30

- And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight. Luke 24:31

- Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by. John 8:59

14. Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.

- Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation. Matt. 12:45

- She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more. John 8:11

- For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. 2 Pet. 2:20

15. The man departed, and told the Jews that it was Jesus, which had made him whole.

- Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ? John 4:29

- He answered and said, A man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said unto me, Go to the pool of Siloam, and wash: and I went and washed, and I received sight. John 9:11

- For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Rom. 10:10

16. And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the sabbath day.

- And the Pharisees went forth, and straightway took counsel with the Herodians against him, how they might destroy him. Mark 3:6

- Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also. John 15:20

- And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? Acts 9:4

17. But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work.

- I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. John 9:4

- Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. John 14:10

- Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high: Heb. 1:3

18. Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.

- The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God. John 10:33

- Then from that day forth they took counsel together for to put him to death. John 11:53

- The Jews answered him, We have a law, and by our law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God. John 19:7

19. Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.

- Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things. John 8:28

- I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father. John 8:38

- I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. John 15:5

20. For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel.

- And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Matt. 3:17

- The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand. John 3:35

- Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. John 14:12

21. For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will.

- See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand. Deut. 32:39

- Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: John 11:25

- (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were. Rom. 4:17

22. For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:

- And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Matt. 28:18

- And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead. Acts 10:42

- Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead. Acts 17:31

23. That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him.

- And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed. Dan. 7:14

- He that heareth you heareth me; and he that despiseth you despiseth me; and he that despiseth me despiseth him that sent me. Luke 10:16

- Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also. 1 John 2:23

24. Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

- He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. Mark 16:16

- There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. Rom. 8:1

- Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. Rom. 8:34

25. Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live.

- Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: John 11:25

- Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) Eph. 2:5

- For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 1 Thess. 4:16

26. For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself;

- For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light. Ps. 36:9

- In him was life; and the life was the light of men. John 1:4

- Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you. John 6:53

27. And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man.

- And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Matt. 28:18

- And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead. Acts 10:42

28. Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,

- In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 1 Cor. 15:52

- For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 1 Thess. 4:16

- And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. Rev. 20:12

29. And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.

- And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. Dan. 12:2

- For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works. Matt. 16:27

- And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal. Matt. 25:46

30. I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.

- And he went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt. Matt. 26:39

- Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise. John 5:19

- For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me. John 6:38

31. If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true.

- One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin, in any sin that he sinneth: at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall the matter be established. Deut. 19:15

- Jesus answered and said unto them, Though I bear record of myself, yet my record is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye cannot tell whence I come, and whither I go. John 8:14

- Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God: John 8:54

32. There is another that beareth witness of me; and I know that the witness which he witnesseth of me is true.

- And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Matt. 3:17

- I have many things to say and to judge of you: but he that sent me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of him. John 8:26

- If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son. 1 John 5:9

33. Ye sent unto John, and he bare witness unto the truth.

- And this is the record of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who art thou? John 1:19

- And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God. John 1:34

- And they came unto John, and said unto him, Rabbi, he that was with thee beyond Jordan, to whom thou barest witness, behold, the same baptizeth, and all men come to him. John 3:26

34. But I receive not testimony from man: but these things I say, that ye might be saved.

- And needed not that any should testify of man: for he knew what was in man. John 2:25

- For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. John 3:17

- I receive not honour from men. John 5:41

35. He was a burning and a shining light: and ye were willing for a season to rejoice in his light.

- And as they departed, Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind? Matt. 11:7

- He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. John 1:8

- We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: 2 Pet. 1:19

36. But I have greater witness than that of John: for the works which the Father hath given me to finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me.

- Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake. John 14:11

- If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father. John 15:24

- If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son. 1 John 5:9

37. And the Father himself, which hath sent me, hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape.

- And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live. Ex. 33:20

- I am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me. John 8:18

- Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen. 1 Tim. 6:16

38. And ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom he hath sent, him ye believe not.

- Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved. Luke 8:12

- I know that ye are Abraham's seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you. John 8:37

- If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. John 15:7

39. Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

- And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself. Luke 24:27

- For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me; for he wrote of me. John 5:46

- And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 2 Tim. 3:15

40. And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.

- For thus saith the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel; In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength: and ye would not. Isa. 30:15

- So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy. Rom. 9:16

- And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely. Rev. 22:17

41. I receive not honour from men.

- He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him. John 7:18

- Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God: John 8:54

- Nor of men sought we glory, neither of you, nor yet of others, when we might have been burdensome, as the apostles of Christ. 1 Thess. 2:6

42. But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you.

- And needed not that any should testify of man: for he knew what was in man. John 2:25

- He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep. John 21:17

- And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. Rom. 5:5

43. I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.

- For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. Matt. 24:5

- He came unto his own, and his own received him not. John 1:11

- For before these days rose up Theudas, boasting himself to be somebody; to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves: who was slain; and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered, and brought to nought. Acts 5:36

44. How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only?

- And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi. Matt. 23:7

- For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God. John 12:43

- But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God. Rom. 2:29

45. Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, in whom ye trust.

- Then they reviled him, and said, Thou art his disciple; but we are Moses' disciples. John 9:28

- For Moses of old time hath in every city them that preach him, being read in the synagogues every sabbath day. Acts 15:21

- Behold, thou art called a Jew, and restest in the law, and makest thy boast of God, Rom. 2:17

46. For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me; for he wrote of me.

- And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice. Gen. 22:18

- The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be. Gen. 49:10

- I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him. Deut. 18:18

47. But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?

- And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead. Luke 16:31

- And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not. John 8:45

- And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 2 Tim. 3:15
