Forasmuch as many have taken in hand to set forth in order a declaration of those things which are most surely believed among us, - But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name. John 15:27 - How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him; Heb. 2:3 - That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life; 1 John 1:1 3. THERE was in the days of Herod, the king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abia: and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabeth. - The seventh to Hakkoz, the eighth to Abijah, 1 Chron. 24:10 - These were the orderings of them in their service to come into the house of the LORD, according to their manner, under Aaron their father, as the LORD God of Israel had commanded him. 1 Chron. 24:19 - Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, Matt. 2:1 6. And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless. - That they may walk in my statutes, and keep mine ordinances, and do them: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God. Ezek. 11:20 - Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily. According to the custom of the priest's office, his lot was to burn incense when he went into the temple of the Lord. - And Aaron shall burn thereon sweet incense every morning: when he dresseth the lamps, he shall burn incense upon it. Ex. 30:7 - Now when these things were thus ordained, the priests went always into the first tabernacle, accomplishing the service of God. Heb. 9:6 - And another angel came and stood at the altar, having a golden censer; and there was given unto him much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne. Rev. 8:3 10. And the whole multitude of the people were praying without at the time of incense. - And he shall take a censer full of burning coals of fire from off the altar before the LORD, and his hands full of sweet incense beaten small, and bring it within the vail: Lev. 16:12 - Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice. Ps. 141:2 - And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour. Eph. 5:2 11. And there appeared unto him an angel of the Lord standing on the right side of the altar of incense. - And the oracle in the forepart was twenty cubits in length, and twenty cubits in breadth, and twenty cubits in the height thereof: and he overlaid it with pure gold; and so covered the altar which was of cedar. 1 Kings 6:20 - And for the altar of incense refined gold by weight; and gold for the pattern of the chariot of the cherubim, that spread out their wings, and covered the ark of the covenant of the LORD. 1 Chron. 28:18 - And the angel of the LORD appeared unto the woman, and said unto her, Behold now, thou art barren, and bearest not: but thou shalt conceive, and bear a son. And when Zacharias saw him, he was troubled, and fear fell upon him. - And entering into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a long white garment; and they were affrighted. And the people waited for Zacharias, and marvelled that he tarried so long in the temple. - And Moses and Aaron went into the tabernacle of the congregation, and came out, and blessed the people: and the glory of the LORD appeared unto all the people. Lev. 9:23 - And he shall put the incense upon the fire before the LORD, that the cloud of the incense may cover the mercy seat that is upon the testimony, that he die not: Lev. 16:13 - Speak unto Aaron and unto his sons, saying, On this wise ye shall bless the children of Israel, saying unto them, Num. 6:23 22. Gen. 21:2 - And the angel of the LORD appeared unto the woman, and said unto her, Behold now, thou art barren, and bearest not: but thou shalt conceive, and bear a son. Judg. 13:3 - Wherefore it came to pass, when the time was come about after Hannah had conceived, that she bare a son, and called his name Samuel, saying, Because I have asked him of the LORD. 1 Sam. 1:20 25. Thus hath the Lord dealt with me in the days wherein he looked on me, to take away my reproach among men. - And she conceived, and bare a son; and said, God hath taken away my reproach: Gen. 30:23 - And her adversary also provoked her sore, for to make her fret, because the LORD had shut up her womb. 1 Sam. 1:6 - And in that day seven women shall take hold of one man, saying, We will eat our own bread, and wear our own apparel: only let us be called by thy name, to take away our reproach. Isa. 4:1 26. And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, - And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, He shall be called a Nazarene. Matt. 1:18 - And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:) Luke 2:4 - To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women. - And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him, and said unto him, The LORD is with thee, thou mighty man of valor. Judg. 6:12 - And said, O man greatly beloved, fear not: peace be unto thee, be strong, yea, be strong. And when he had spoken unto me, I was strengthened, and said, Let my lord speak; for thou hast strengthened me. Dan. 10:19 - And she spake out with a loud voice, and said, Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb. Luke 1:42 29. And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be. - And when Zacharias saw him, he was troubled, and fear fell upon him. Luke 1:12 - But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart. Luke 2:19 - Now while Peter doubted in himself what this vision which he had seen should mean, behold, the men which were sent from Cornelius had made enquiry for Simon's house, and stood before the gate, Acts 10:17 30. And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. - Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. Isa. 41:10 - But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine. Isa. 43:1 - To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. Eph. 1:6 31. And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. - Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: - He shall build an house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for ever. 2 Sam. 7:13 - Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this. Isa. 9:7 - For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son? Heb. 1:5 33. And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. - But I will settle him in mine house and in my kingdom for ever: and his throne shall be established for evermore. 1 Chron. 17:14 - And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed. Dan. 7:14 - But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom. Heb. 1:8 34. And Mary arose in those days, and went into the hill country with haste, into a city of Juda; - Which the children of Aaron, being of the families of the Kohathites, who were of the children of Levi, had: for theirs was the first lot. Gen. 43:27 - And David left his carriage in the hand of the keeper of the carriage, and ran into the army, and came and saluted his brethren. 1 Sam. 17:22 - And when he was departed thence, he lighted on Jehonadab the son of Rechab coming to meet him: and he saluted him, and said to him, Is thine heart right, as my heart is with thy heart? And Jehonadab answered, It is. If it be, give me thine hand. And he gave him his hand; and he took him up to him into the chariot. 2 Kings 10:15 41. And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost: - And the children struggled together within her; and she said, If it be so, why am I thus? And she went to inquire of the LORD. Gen. 25:22 - I was cast upon thee from the womb: thou art my God from my mother's belly. Ps. 22:10 - And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Ghost, and prophesied, saying, Luke 1:67 42. And she spake out with a loud voice, and said, Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb. - Blessed above women shall Jael the wife of Heber the Kenite be, blessed shall she be above women in the tent. Judg. 5:24 - For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. Luke 1:48 - Saying, Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest. Luke 19:38 43. And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? - The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool. Ps. 110:1 - And it shall be said in that day, Lo, this is our God; we have waited for him, and he will save us: this is the LORD; we have waited for him, we will be glad and rejoice in his salvation. For, lo, as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy. - Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation. Hab. 3:18 - And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost: Luke 1:41 - He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom's voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled. Luke 11:27 49. For he that is mighty hath done to me great things; and holy is his name. - Have mercy upon us, O LORD, have mercy upon us: for we are exceedingly filled with contempt. Ps. 123:3 - Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle. Ps. 24:8 - For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones. He hath put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted them of low degree. - The LORD maketh poor, and maketh rich: he bringeth low, and lifteth up. 1 Sam. 2:7 - To set up on high those that be low; that those which mourn may be exalted to safety. To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace. - He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
