↥ Luke 19NT with xrefs 1. And Jesus entered and passed through Jericho. - And the children of Israel set forward, and pitched in the plains of Moab on this side Jordan by Jericho. Num. 22:1 - Now Jericho was straitly shut up because of the children of Israel: none went out, and none came in. Josh. 6:1 - By faith the walls of Jericho fell down, after they were compassed about seven days. Heb. 11:30 2. And, behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus, which was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich. - And as Jesus passed forth from thence, he saw a man, named Matthew, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he saith unto him, Follow me. And he arose, and followed him. Matt. 9:9 - And it came to pass, that, as Jesus sat at meat in his house, many publicans and sinners sat also together with Jesus and his disciples: for there were many, and they followed him. Mark 2:15 - And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, he said, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God! Luke 18:24 3. And he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the press, because he was little of stature. - And Herod said, John have I beheaded: but who is this, of whom I hear such things? And he desired to see him. Luke 9:9 - And when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceeding glad: for he was desirous to see him of a long season, because he had heard many things of him; and he hoped to have seen some miracle done by him. Luke 23:8 - The same came therefore to Philip, which was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and desired him, saying, Sir, we would see Jesus. John 12:21 4. And he ran before, and climbed up into a sycomore tree to see him: for he was to pass that way. - And the king made silver to be in Jerusalem as stones, and cedars made he to be as the sycamore trees that are in the vale, for abundance. 1 Kings 10:27 - The bricks are fallen down, but we will build with hewn stones: the sycomores are cut down, but we will change them into cedars. Isa. 9:10 - Then answered Amos, and said to Amaziah, I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet's son; but I was an herdman, and a gatherer of sycomore fruit: Amos 7:14 5. And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house. - And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou? Gen. 3:9 - Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off. Ps. 139:2 - To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out. John 10:3 6. And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully. - I made haste, and delayed not to keep thy commandments. Ps. 119:60 - And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained us. Acts 16:15 - And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house. Acts 16:34 7. And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner. - Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him: for she is a sinner. Luke 7:39 - And the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying, This man receiveth sinners, and eateth with them. Luke 15:2 - The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. Luke 18:11 8. And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord: Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold. - If a man shall steal an ox, or a sheep, and kill it, or sell it; he shall restore five oxen for an ox, and four sheep for a sheep. Ex. 22:1 - Then they shall confess their sin which they have done: and he shall recompense his trespass with the principal thereof, and add unto it the fifth part thereof, and give it unto him against whom he hath trespassed. Num. 5:7 - And he said unto them, Exact no more than that which is appointed you. Luke 3:13 9. And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham. - And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day? Luke 13:16 - And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. Acts 16:31 - Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham. Gal. 3:7 10. For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost. - I will seek that which was lost, and bring again that which was driven away, and will bind up that which was broken, and will strengthen that which was sick: but I will destroy the fat and the strong; I will feed them with judgment. Ezek. 34:16 - What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it? Luke 15:4 - This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief. 1 Tim. 1:15 11. And as they heard these things, he added and spake a parable, because he was nigh to Jerusalem, and because they thought that the kingdom of God should immediately appear. - And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: Luke 17:20 - But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, to day is the third day since these things were done. Luke 24:21 - When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? Acts 1:6 12. He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return. - For the Son of Man is as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch. Mark 13:34 - Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven. Acts 1:11 - Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him. 1 Pet. 3:22 13. And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come. - And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey. Matt. 25:15 - Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith; Rom. 12:6 - As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. 1 Pet. 4:10 14. But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us. - And the LORD said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them. 1 Sam. 8:7 - He came unto his own, and his own received him not. John 1:11 - But they cried out, Away with him, away with him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Caesar. John 19:15 15. And it came to pass, that when he was returned, having received the kingdom, then he commanded these servants to be called unto him, to whom he had given the money, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading. - And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him, which owed him ten thousand talents. Matt. 18:24 - And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: Matt. 25:32 - For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. 2 Cor. 5:10 16. Then came the first, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained ten pounds. - Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the LORD blessed him. Gen. 26:12 - Thou shalt not give him thy money upon usury, nor lend him thy victuals for increase. Lev. 25:37 - Unto a stranger thou mayest lend upon usury; but unto thy brother thou shalt not lend upon usury: that the LORD thy God may bless thee in all that thou settest thine hand to in the land whither thou goest to possess it. Deut. 23:20 17. And he said unto him, Well, thou good servant: because thou hast been faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities. - And Joseph found grace in his sight, and he served him: and he made him overseer over his house, and all that he had he put into his hand. Gen. 39:4 - He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much. Luke 16:10 - And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations: Rev. 2:26 18. And the second came, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained five pounds. - But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly after this sort? for all things come of thee, and of thine own have we given thee. 1 Chron. 29:14 - He that by usury and unjust gain increaseth his substance, he shall gather it for him that will pity the poor. Prov. 28:8 - But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. Matt. 13:23 19. And he said likewise to him, Be thou also over five cities. - Say ye to the righteous, that it shall be well with him: for they shall eat the fruit of their doings. Luke 12:20 - And he called him, and said unto him, How is it that I hear this of thee? give an account of thy stewardship; for thou mayest be no longer steward. Luke 16:2 25. (And they said unto him, Lord, he hath ten pounds.) - For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. Isa. 55:9 - Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee. Matt. 16:22 - Jesus said, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith unto him, Lord, by this time he stinketh: for he hath been dead four days. John 11:39 26. For I say unto you, That unto every one which hath shall be given; and from him that hath not, even that he hath shall be taken away from him. - Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof. But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me. - And Samuel said, As the sword hath made women childless, so shall thy mother be childless among women. Zech. 14:4 - And in the day time he was teaching in the temple; and at night he went out, and abode in the mount that is called the mount of Olives. And as he went, they spread their clothes in the way. - And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. Saying, Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest. - Blessed be he that cometh in the name of the LORD: we have blessed you out of the house of the LORD. Ps. 118:26 - Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. Luke 2:14 - For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us; Eph. 2:14 39. And some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said unto him, Master, rebuke thy disciples. - But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in. Matt. 23:13 - And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus. Acts 4:18 - And to him they agreed: and when they had called the apostles, and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. Acts 5:40 40. And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out. - For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands. Isa. 55:12 - For the stone shall cry out of the wall, and the beam out of the timber shall answer it. Hab. 2:11 - And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham. Matt. 3:9 41. And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it, - Mine eye affecteth mine heart because of all the daughters of my city. Lam. 3:51 - But Jesus turning unto them said, Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children. Luke 23:28 - That I have great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart. Rom. 9:2 42. Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes. - O that they were wise, that they understood this, that they would consider their latter end! Deut. 32:29 - Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed. Isa. 6:10 - O that thou hadst hearkened to my commandments! then had thy peace been as a river, and thy righteousness as the waves of the sea: Isa. 48:18 43. For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side, - And he shall besiege thee in all thy gates, until thy high and fenced walls come down, wherein thou trustedst, throughout all thy land: and he shall besiege thee in all thy gates throughout all thy land, which the LORD thy God hath given thee. Deut. 28:52 - And I will camp against thee round about, and will lay siege against thee with a mount, and I will raise forts against thee. Isa. 29:3 - And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh. Luke 21:20 44. And shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation. - Then will I cut off Israel out of the land which I have given them; and this house, which I have hallowed for my name, will I cast out of my sight; and Israel shall be a proverb and a byword among all people: 1 Kings 9:7 - Therefore shall Zion for your sake be plowed as a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of the forest. Mic. 3:12 - Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation. 1 Pet. 2:12 45. And he went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold therein, and them that bought; - And thou shalt bestow that money for whatsoever thy soul lusteth after, for oxen, or for sheep, or for wine, or for strong drink, or for whatsoever thy soul desireth: and thou shalt eat there before the LORD thy God, and thou shalt rejoice, thou, and thine household, Deut. 14:26 - And found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting: John 2:14 - And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers' money, and overthrew the tables; John 2:15 46. Saying unto them, It is written, My house is the house of prayer: but ye have made it a den of thieves. - That thine eyes may be open toward this house night and day, even toward the place of which thou hast said, My name shall be there: that thou mayest hearken unto the prayer which thy servant shall make toward this place. 1 Kings 8:29 - Even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer: their burnt offerings and their sacrifices shall be accepted upon mine altar; for mine house shall be called an house of prayer for all people. Isa. 56:7 - Is this house, which is called by my name, become a den of robbers in your eyes? Behold, even I have seen it, saith the LORD. Jer. 7:11 47. And he taught daily in the temple. But the chief priests and the scribes and the chief of the people sought to destroy him, - And in the day time he was teaching in the temple; and at night he went out, and abode in the mount that is called the mount of Olives. Luke 21:37 - I know that ye are Abraham's seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you. John 8:37 - Then from that day forth they took counsel together for to put him to death. John 11:53 48. And could not find what they might do: for all the people were very attentive to hear him. - And the chief priests and the scribes the same hour sought to lay hands on him; and they feared the people: for they perceived that he had spoken this parable against them. Luke 20:19 - And they watched him, and sent forth spies, which should feign themselves just men, that they might take hold of his words, that so they might deliver him unto the power and authority of the governor.
