Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them. - In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre. Matt. 28:1 - And Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses beheld where he was laid. Mark 15:47 - And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun. Mark 16:2 2. And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre. - And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it. Matt. 28:2 - And when they looked, they saw that the stone was rolled away: for it was very great. Mark 16:4 - The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre. John 20:1 3. And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus. - So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God. Mark 16:19 - And when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him. Luke 2:45 - Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen clothes lie, John 20:6 4. And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments: - And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. Matt. 28:5 - And entering into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a long white garment; and they were affrighted. Mark 16:5 - And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; Acts 1:10 5. Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again. - Saying, The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be slain, and be raised the third day. Luke 9:22 - Let these sayings sink down into your ears: for the Son of man shall be delivered into the hands of men. Luke 24:23 - Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the LORD, and that he had spoken these things unto her. John 20:18 10. It was Mary Magdalene and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, and other women that were with them, which told these things unto the apostles. - There were also women looking on afar off: among whom was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the less and of Joses, and Salome; Mark 15:40 - And she went and told them that had been with him, as they mourned and wept. Mark 16:10 - And Joanna the wife of Chuza Herod's steward, and Susanna, and many others, which ministered unto him of their substance. Luke 8:3 11. And their words seemed to them as idle tales, and they believed them not. - And Lot went out, and spake unto his sons in law, which married his daughters, and said, Up, get you out of this place; for the LORD will destroy this city. But he seemed as one that mocked unto his sons in law. Gen. 19:14 - Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: Luke 24:25 - And he went out, and followed him; and wist not that it was true which was done by the angel; but thought he saw a vision. Acts 12:9 12. Then arose Peter, and ran unto the sepulchre; and stooping down, he beheld the linen clothes laid by themselves, and departed, wondering in himself at that which was come to pass. - Then took they the body of Jesus, and wound it in linen clothes with the spices, as the manner of the Jews is to bury. John 19:40 - So they ran both together: and the other disciple did outrun Peter, and came first to the sepulchre. John 20:4 - Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen clothes lie, John 20:6 13. And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem about threescore furlongs. - After that he appeared in another form unto two of them, as they walked, and went into the country. Mark 16:12 - And the one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering said unto him, Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which are come to pass there in these days? Luke 24:18 - And they rose up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them, Luke 24:33 14. And they talked together of all these things which had happened. - And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. Deut. 6:7 - But they held their peace: for by the way they had disputed among themselves, who should be the greatest. Mark 9:34 - And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us. Luke 2:15 15. And it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them. - For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. Matt. 18:20 - I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. John 14:18 - Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. John 14:23 16. But their eyes were holden that they should not know him. - After that he appeared in another form unto two of them, as they walked, and went into the country. Mark 16:12 - And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight. Luke 24:31 - But when the morning was now come, Jesus stood on the shore: but the disciples knew not that it was Jesus. John 21:4 17. And he said unto them, What manner of communications are these that ye have one to another, as ye walk, and are sad? - And the LORD said unto him, Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a mark upon the foreheads of the men that sigh and that cry for all the abominations that be done in the midst thereof. Ezek. 9:4 - Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy. John 16:20 - For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death. 2 Cor. 7:10 18. And the one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering said unto him, Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which are come to pass there in these days? - For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people. Isa. 28:11 - For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Matt. 25:35 - Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene. And they said unto him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people: - And there came a fear on all: and they glorified God, saying, That a great prophet is risen up among us; and, That God hath visited his people. Luke 7:16 - Then those men, when they had seen the miracle that Jesus did, said, This is of a truth that prophet that should come into the world. Acts 3:17 - Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, to day is the third day since these things were done. - Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; for he hath visited and redeemed his people, Luke 1:68 - And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem. Luke 2:38 - When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? Acts 1:6 22. Luke 24:12 - Peter therefore went forth, and that other disciple, and came to the sepulchre. John 20:3 - Then went in also that other disciple, which came first to the sepulchre, and he saw, and believed. John 20:8 25. Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: - And he saith unto them, Are ye so without understanding also? Do ye not perceive, that whatsoever thing from without entereth into the man, it cannot defile him; Mark 7:18 - And when Jesus knew it, he saith unto them, Why reason ye, because ye have no bread? perceive ye not yet, neither understand? have ye your heart yet hardened? Mark 8:17 - Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing. Heb. 5:11 26. Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory? - Opening and alleging, that Christ must needs have suffered, and risen again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is Christ. Acts 17:3 - Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. Heb. 12:2 - Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow. 1 Pet. 1:11 27. And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself. - The LORD thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken; Deut. 18:15 - And in that day shall the deaf hear the words of the book, and the eyes of the blind shall see out of obscurity, and out of darkness. Isa. 29:18 - But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. Isa. 53:5 28. And they drew nigh unto the village, whither they went: and he made as though he would have gone further. - And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me. Gen. 32:26 - And Joseph saw his brethren, and he knew them, but made himself strange unto them, and spake roughly unto them; and he said unto them, Whence come ye? And they said, From the land of Canaan to buy food. Gen. 42:7 - And he saw them toiling in rowing; for the wind was contrary unto them: and about the fourth watch of the night he cometh unto them, walking upon the sea, and would have passed by them. Mark 6:48 29. But they constrained him, saying, Abide with us: for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent. And he went in to tarry with them. - And he pressed upon them greatly; and they turned in unto him, and entered into his house; and he made them a feast, and did bake unleavened bread, and they did eat. Gen. 19:3 - And Manoah said unto the angel of the LORD, I pray thee, let us detain thee, until we shall have made ready a kid for thee. Judg. 13:15 - And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained us. Acts 16:15 30. And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them. - And when he had taken the five loaves and the two fishes, he looked up to heaven, and blessed, and brake the loaves, and gave them to his disciples to set before them; and the two fishes divided he among them all. Mark 6:41 - And as they did eat, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and brake it, and gave to them, and said, Take, eat: this is my body. And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures? - My heart was hot within me, while I was musing the fire burned: then spake I with my tongue, Ps. 39:3 - The Lord GOD hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary: he wakeneth morning by morning, he wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned. Isa. 50:4 - Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O LORD God of hosts. Jer. 15:16 33. And they rose up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them, - Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you. John 20:19 - And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you. John 20:26 - And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James. Acts 1:13 34. Saying, The Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon. - And they went and told it unto the residue: neither believed they them. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit. - It stood still, but I could not discern the form thereof: an image was before mine eyes, there was silence, and I heard a voice, saying, Job 4:16 - And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear. Matt. 14:26 - And they said unto her, Thou art mad. But she constantly affirmed that it was even so. Then said they, It is his angel. Acts 12:15 38. And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts? - Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off. Ps. 139:2 - And needed not that any should testify of man: for he knew what was in man. John 2:25 - Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do. Heb. 4:13 39. Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have. - The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the LORD. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe. John 20:25 - Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his feet. - And when he had so said, he shewed unto them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the LORD. John 20:20 - To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God: Acts 1:3 - And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth. Rev. 5:6 41. And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here any meat? - Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Ps. 16:11 - And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you. John 16:22 - Then Jesus saith unto them, Children, have ye any meat? They answered him, No. John 21:5 42. And he took it, and did eat before them. - Now the first day of the feast of unleavened bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare for thee to eat the passover? Matt. 26:17 - Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered. Luke 4:2 - Not to all the people, but unto witnesses chosen before God, even to us, who did eat and drink with him after he rose from the dead. Acts 10:41 44. And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me. - For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me; for he wrote of me. John 5:46 - Then he took unto him the twelve, and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of man shall be accomplished. Acts 16:14 - Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. 2 Pet. 1:20 - And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life. 1 John 5:20 46. And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: - Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again. Mark 16:19 - And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. Acts 1:9 52. And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy: - Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness; Ps. 30:11 - And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him. Matt. 28:9 - And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.
