And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick. - And he called unto him the twelve, and began to send them forth by two and two; and gave them power over unclean spirits; Mark 6:7 - And they cast out many devils, and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed them. Mark 6:13 - They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. Mark 16:18 3. And he said unto them, Take nothing for your journey, neither staves, nor scrip, neither bread, neither money; neither have two coats apiece. - And commanded them that they should take nothing for their journey, save a staff only; no scrip, no bread, no money in their purse: Mark 6:8 - Carry neither purse, nor scrip, nor shoes: and salute no man by the way. Luke 10:4 - And he said unto them, When I sent you without purse, and scrip, and shoes, lacked ye any thing? And they said, Nothing. Luke 22:35 4. And whatsoever house ye enter into, there abide, and thence depart. - And into whatsoever city or town ye shall enter, enquire who in it is worthy; and there abide till ye go thence. Luke 10:7 - And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained us. And whosoever will not receive you, when ye go out of that city, shake off the very dust from your feet for a testimony against them. - Even the very dust of your city, which cleaveth on us, we do wipe off against you: notwithstanding be ye sure of this, that the kingdom of God is come nigh unto you. And he said to his disciples, Make them sit down by fifties in a company. - Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens: Ex. 18:21 - And they that had eaten were about five thousand men, beside women and children. Luke 4:41 - And he charged him to tell no man: but go, and shew thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing, according as Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them. Luke 5:14 22. Saying, The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be slain, and be raised the third day. - From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day. Matt. 16:21 - Let these sayings sink down into your ears: for the Son of man shall be delivered into the hands of men. Luke 9:44 - For he shall be delivered unto the Gentiles, and shall be mocked, and spitefully entreated, and spitted on: Luke 18:32 23. And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. - And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple. Luke 14:27 - And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Rom. 12:2 - But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. Heb. 3:13 24. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it. - So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple. Luke 14:33 - He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal. John 12:25 - Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, Phil. 3:8 25. For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away? - If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine. Luke 4:7 - But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? Luke 12:20 - But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. Luke 16:25 26. For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father's, and of the holy angels. - But he that denieth me before men shall be denied before the angels of God. Luke 12:9 - For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. Rom. 1:16 - If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us: 2 Tim. 2:12 27. But I tell you of a truth, there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God. - And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord's Christ. Luke 2:26 - Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death. John 8:51 - Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me. John 21:22 28. And it came to pass about an eight days after these sayings, he took Peter and John and James, and went up into a mountain to pray. - And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy. Matt. 26:37 - And he suffered no man to follow him, save Peter, and James, and John the brother of James. Mark 5:37 - And when he came into the house, he suffered no man to go in, save Peter, and James, and John, and the father and the mother of the maiden. Luke 8:51 29. And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was altered, and his raiment was white and glistering. - And it came to pass, when Moses came down from mount Sinai with the two tables of testimony in Moses' hand, when he came down from the mount, that Moses wist not that the skin of his face shone while he talked with him. Ex. 34:29 - And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light. Matt. 17:2 - And his raiment became shining, exceeding white as snow; so as no fuller on earth can white them. Mark 9:3 30. And, behold, there talked with him two men, which were Moses and Elias: - The LORD thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken; Deut. 18:15 - And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me. Luke 24:44 - Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph. John 1:45 31. Who appeared in glory, and spake of his decease which he should accomplish at Jerusalem. - Nevertheless I must walk to day, and to morrow, and the day following: for it cannot be that a prophet perish out of Jerusalem. Luke 13:33 - But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord. 2 Cor. 3:18 - When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory. Col. 3:4 32. But Peter and they that were with him were heavy with sleep: and when they were awake, they saw his glory, and the two men that stood with him. - Yet heard I the voice of his words: and when I heard the voice of his words, then was I in a deep sleep on my face, and my face toward the ground. Dan. 10:9 - And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour? Matt. 26:40 - For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty. 2 Pet. 1:16 33. And it came to pass, as they departed from him, Peter said unto Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias: not knowing what he said. - Ye shall dwell in booths seven days; all that are Israelites born shall dwell in booths: Lev. 23:42 - But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all thy works. Ps. 73:28 - For he wist not what to say; for they were sore afraid. Mark 9:6 34. While he thus spake, there came a cloud, and overshadowed them: and they feared as they entered into the cloud. - And the LORD said unto Moses, Lo, I come unto thee in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with thee, and believe thee for ever. And Moses told the words of the people unto the LORD. Ex. 19:9 - And Moses went up into the mount, and a cloud covered the mount. Ex. 24:15 - It came even to pass, as the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the LORD; and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of music, and praised the LORD, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever: that then the house was filled with a cloud, even the house of the LORD; 2 Chron. 5:13 35. And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him. - The LORD thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken; Deut. 18:15 - And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased. Luke 3:22 - For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. 2 Pet. 1:17 36. And when the voice was past, Jesus was found alone. And they kept it close, and told no man in those days any of those things which they had seen. - A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; Eccles. 3:7 - And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen again from the dead. And, lo, a spirit taketh him, and he suddenly crieth out; and it teareth him that he foameth again, and bruising him hardly departeth from him. - Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatick, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water. Matt. 17:15 - And when the unclean spirit had torn him, and cried with a loud voice, he came out of him. Mark 1:26 - And they brought him unto him: and when he saw him, straightway the spirit tare him; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed foaming. Mark 9:20 40. And I besought thy disciples to cast him out; and they could not. - And Gehazi passed on before them, and laid the staff upon the face of the child; but there was neither voice, nor hearing. Wherefore he went again to meet him, and told him, saying, The child is not awaked. 2 Kings 4:31 - And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. Bring thy son hither. - They have corrupted themselves, their spot is not the spot of his children: they are a perverse and crooked generation. Deut. 32:5 - But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas: Matt. 12:39 - But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: Phil. 2:7 42. And as he was yet a coming, the devil threw him down, and tare him. And Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the child, and delivered him again to his father. - And Elijah took the child, and brought him down out of the chamber into the house, and delivered him unto his mother: and Elijah said, See, thy son liveth. 1 Kings 17:23 - When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him. Mark 9:25 - And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother. Luke 7:15 43. And they were all amazed at the mighty power of God. But while they wondered every one at all things which Jesus did, he said unto his disciples, - And they were all amazed, and they glorified God, and were filled with fear, saying, We have seen strange things to day. Luke 5:26 - And there came a fear on all: and they glorified God, saying, That a great prophet is risen up among us; and, That God hath visited his people. Luke 7:16 - And he said unto them, Where is your faith? And they being afraid wondered, saying one to another, What manner of man is this! for he commandeth even the winds and water, and they obey him. Luke 8:25 44. And Jesus, perceiving the thought of their heart, took a child, and set him by him, - But when Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answering said unto them, What reason ye in your hearts? Luke 5:22 - But he knew their thoughts, and said to the man which had the withered hand, Rise up, and stand forth in the midst. And he arose and stood forth. Luke 6:8 - And needed not that any should testify of man: for he knew what was in man. John 2:25 48.
