The same day went Jesus out of the house, and sat by the sea side. - And when he was come into the house, the blind men came to him: and Jesus saith unto them, Believe ye that I am able to do this? They said unto him, Yea, Lord. Matt. 9:28 - Then Jesus sent the multitude away, and went into the house: and his disciples came unto him, saying, Declare unto us the parable of the tares of the field. Matt. 13:36 - And again he entered into Capernaum after some days; and it was noised that he was in the house. Mark 2:1 2. And great multitudes were gathered together unto him, so that he went into a ship, and sat; and the whole multitude stood on the shore. - The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be. Gen. 49:10 - And there followed him great multitudes of people from Galilee, and from Decapolis, and from Jerusalem, and from Judaea, and from beyond Jordan. Matt. 4:25 - And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon's, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship. Luke 5:3 3. And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow; - All these things spake Jesus unto the multitude in parables; and without a parable spake he not unto them: Matt. 13:34 - And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these parables, he departed thence. Matt. 13:53 - And he said unto them, Know ye not this parable? and how then will ye know all parables? Mark 4:13 4. And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up: - And in the uppermost basket there was of all manner of bakemeats for Pharaoh; and the birds did eat them out of the basket upon my head. Gen. 40:17 - When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side. Matt. 13:19 - Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip. Heb. 2:1 5. Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth: - And I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within you; and I will take the stony heart out of their flesh, and will give them an heart of flesh: Ezek. 11:19 - Shall horses run upon the rock? will one plow there with oxen? for ye have turned judgment into gall, and the fruit of righteousness into hemlock: Amos 6:12 - Yea, they made their hearts as an adamant stone, lest they should hear the law, and the words which the LORD of hosts hath sent in his spirit by the former prophets: therefore came a great wrath from the LORD of hosts. And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away. - They shall not hunger nor thirst; neither shall the heat nor sun smite them: for he that hath mercy on them shall lead them, even by the springs of water shall he guide them. Isa. 49:10 - And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: Matt. 7:26 - Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended. Matt. 13:21 7. And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them: - Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; Gen. 3:18 - For thus saith the LORD to the men of Judah and Jerusalem, Break up your fallow ground, and sow not among thorns. Jer. 4:3 - And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews! Matt. 27:29 8. But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold. - Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the LORD blessed him. Gen. 26:12 - But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience. Luke 8:15 - Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples. John 15:8 9. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear. - He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. Matt. 11:15 - He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God. Rev. 2:7 - He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death. Rev. 2:11 10. And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables? - Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out? Matt. 17:19 - But without a parable spake he not unto them: and when they were alone, he expounded all things to his disciples. He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. - And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. Matt. 16:17 - But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. 1 Cor. 2:10 - But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him. 1 John 2:27 12. For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath. - Take heed therefore how ye hear: for whosoever hath, to him shall be given; and whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he seemeth to have. Luke 8:18 - And he said unto them that stood by, Take from him the pound, and give it to him that hath ten pounds. Luke 19:24 - Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent. Rev. 2:5 13. Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand. - Yet the LORD hath not given you an heart to perceive, and eyes to see, and ears to hear, unto this day. Deut. 29:4 - Hear now this, O foolish people, and without understanding; which have eyes, and see not; which have ears, and hear not: Jer. 5:21 - Son of man, thou dwellest in the midst of a rebellious house, which have eyes to see, and see not; they have ears to hear, and hear not: for they are a rebellious house. Ezek. 12:2 14. And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive: - And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not. Isa. 6:9 - (According as it is written, God hath given them the spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear;) unto this day. Rom. 11:8 - But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ. 2 Cor. 3:14 15. For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them. - Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed. Isa. 6:10 - But they refused to hearken, and pulled away the shoulder, and stopped their ears, that they should not hear. Zech. 7:11 - He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them. John 12:40 16. But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear. - And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. Matt. 16:17 - Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed. John 20:29 - To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me. Acts 26:18 17. For verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them. - Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad. John 8:56 - These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. Heb. 11:13 - Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you: 1 Pet. 1:10 18. Isa. 58:2 - And they come unto thee as the people cometh, and they sit before thee as my people, and they hear thy words, but they will not do them: for with their mouth they shew much love, but their heart goeth after their covetousness. Ezek. 33:31 - For Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just man and an holy, and observed him; and when he heard him, he did many things, and heard him gladly. Mark 6:20 21. Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended. - But ye should say, Why persecute we him, seeing the root of the matter is found in me? Job 19:28 - O Ephraim, what shall I do unto thee? O Judah, what shall I do unto thee? for your goodness is as a morning cloud, and as the early dew it goeth away. Hos. 6:4 - And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me. Matt. 11:6 22. He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful. - But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. 1 Tim. 6:9 - Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; 1 Tim. 6:17 - For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed unto Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus unto Dalmatia. 2 Tim. 4:10 23. But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. - Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you. John 15:16 - Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God. Phil. 1:11 - Which is come unto you, as it is in all the world; and bringeth forth fruit, as it doth also in you, since the day ye heard of it, and knew the grace of God in truth: Col. 1:6 24. Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field: - Another parable spake he unto them; The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened. Matt. 13:33 - Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a net, that was cast into the sea, and gathered of every kind: Matt. 13:47 - And he said, So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground; Mark 4:26 25. But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way. - The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels. Matt. 13:39 - While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. Matt. 25:5 - But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. 2 Pet. 2:1 26. But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also. - For every tree is known by his own fruit. For of thorns men do not gather figs, nor of a bramble bush gather they grapes. Luke 6:44 - Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Gal. 5:19 - Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh. James 3:12 27. So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares? - Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them. Acts 20:30 - Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. Rom. 16:17 - For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ. Jude 1:4 28. He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up? - And when his disciples James and John saw this, they said, Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elias did? Luke 9:54 - To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus. 1 Cor. 5:5 - Sufficient to such a man is this punishment, which was inflicted of many. 2 Cor. 2:6 29. But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them. - But the wheat and the rye were not smitten: for they were not grown up. Ex. 9:32 - When he hath made plain the face thereof, doth he not cast abroad the fitches, and scatter the cummin, and cast in the principal wheat and the appointed barley and the rie in their place? Isa. 28:25 - The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one; Matt. 13:38 30. Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn. - Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire. Matt. 3:12 - Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God. 1 Cor. 4:5 - And another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to him that sat on the cloud, Thrust in thy sickle, and reap: for the time is come for thee to reap; for the harvest of the earth is ripe. Rev. 14:15 31. Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field: - Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field: Matt. 13:24 - And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. Matt. 17:20 - And he said, Whereunto shall we liken the kingdom of God? or with what comparison shall we compare it? Mark 4:30 32. Which indeed is the least of all seeds: but when it is grown, it is the greatest among herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in the branches thereof. - There shall be an handful of corn in the earth upon the top of the mountains; the fruit thereof shall shake like Lebanon: and they of the city shall flourish like grass of the earth. Ps. 72:16 - All the fowls of heaven made their nests in his boughs, and under his branches did all the beasts of the field bring forth their young, and under his shadow dwelt all great nations. Ezek. 31:6 - The leaves thereof were fair, and the fruit thereof much, and in it was meat for all: the beasts of the field had shadow under it, and the fowls of the heaven dwelt in the boughs thereof, and all flesh was fed of it. Dan. 4:12 33. Another parable spake he unto them; The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened. - And Abraham hastened into the tent unto Sarah, and said, Make ready quickly three measures of fine meal, knead it, and make cakes upon the hearth. Gen. 18:6 - A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump. Mark 4:33 - These things have I spoken unto you in proverbs: but the time cometh, when I shall no more speak unto you in proverbs, but I shall shew you plainly of the Father. John 16:25 35. That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world. - I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old: Ps. 78:2 - Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began, Rom. 16:25 - But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory: 1 Cor. 2:7 36. He answered and said unto them, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man; - Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field: Matt. 13:24 - I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. 1 Cor. 3:6 - How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him; Heb. 2:3 38. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. John 8:44 - In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother. 1 John 3:10 39. The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels. - Put ye in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe: come, get you down; for the press is full, the fats overflow; for their wickedness is great. Joel 3:13 - And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? Matt. 24:3 - And another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to him that sat on the cloud, Thrust in thy sickle, and reap: for the time is come for thee to reap; for the harvest of the earth is ripe. Rev. 14:15 40. As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world. - And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Matt. 3:10 - Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn. Matt. 13:30 - If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. John 15:6 41. The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity; - I will consume man and beast; I will consume the fowls of the heaven, and the fishes of the sea, and the stumblingblocks with the wicked: and I will cut off man from off the land, saith the LORD. Zeph. 1:3 - Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh! Matt. 18:7 - And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life. Rev. 21:27 42. And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. - And whoso falleth not down and worshippeth shall the same hour be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. Dan. 3:6 - For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch. Mal. 4:1 - Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness, there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Matt. 22:13 43. Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear. - So let all thine enemies perish, O LORD: but let them that love him be as the sun when he goeth forth in his might. And the land had rest forty years. Judg. 5:31 - They looked unto him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed. Ps. 34:5 - And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever. Dan. 12:3 44. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field. - How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver! Prov. 16:16 - Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding. Prov. 23:23 - Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, Phil. 3:8 45. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls: - No mention shall be made of coral, or of pearls: for the price of wisdom is above rubies. Job 28:18 - If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; Prov. 2:4 - My fruit is better than gold, yea, than fine gold; and my revenue than choice silver. Prov. 8:19 46. Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it. - Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me. Mark 10:21 - Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me. Luke 18:22 - And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need. Acts 2:45 47. So shall it be at the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the just, - The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels. They say unto him, Yea, Lord. - He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. Mark 6:3 - And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out. Luke 19:40 57. And they were offended in him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, save in his own country, and in his own house. - And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me. Matt. 11:6 - And he said, Verily I say unto you, No prophet is accepted in his own country. Luke 4:24 - For Jesus himself testified, that a prophet hath no honour in his own country. John 4:44 58. And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief. - And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them. Mark 6:5 - Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith.
