And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart, - And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy. Matt. 26:37 - And he suffered no man to follow him, save Peter, and James, and John the brother of James. Mark 5:37 - This is the third time I am coming to you. In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established. 2 Cor. 13:1 2. And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light. - And it came to pass, when Moses came down from mount Sinai with the two tables of testimony in Moses' hand, when he came down from the mount, that Moses wist not that the skin of his face shone while he talked with him. Ex. 34:29 - His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow: Matt. 28:3 - And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud: and a rainbow was upon his head, and his face was as it were the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire: Rev. 10:1 3. And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him. - I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him. Deut. 18:18 - The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it. Luke 16:16 - And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself. Luke 24:27 4. Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias. - Ye shall dwell in booths seven days; all that are Israelites born shall dwell in booths: Lev. 23:42 - For he wist not what to say; for they were sore afraid. Mark 9:6 - And it came to pass, as they departed from him, Peter said unto Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias: not knowing what he said. Luke 9:33 5. While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him. - The LORD thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken; Deut. 18:15 - Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles. Isa. 42:1 - And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Matt. 3:17 6. And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were sore afraid. - And there came a fire out from before the LORD, and consumed upon the altar the burnt offering and the fat: which when all the people saw, they shouted, and fell on their faces. Lev. 9:24 - For it came to pass, when the flame went up toward heaven from off the altar, that the angel of the LORD ascended in the flame of the altar. And Manoah and his wife looked on it, and fell on their faces to the ground. Judg. 13:20 - And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount. 2 Pet. 1:18 7. And Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid. - And, behold, an hand touched me, which set me upon my knees and upon the palms of my hands. Dan. 10:10 - Then there came again and touched me one like the appearance of a man, and he strengthened me, Dan. 10:18 - And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last: Rev. 1:17 8. And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus only. - And when the voice was past, Jesus was found alone. And they kept it close, and told no man in those days any of those things which they had seen. Luke 9:36 - Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. Acts 4:12 - For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth. Rom. 10:4 9. And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen again from the dead. - And Jesus saith unto him, See thou tell no man; but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them. Matt. 8:4 - Then charged he his disciples that they should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ. Matt. 16:20 - And he charged them that they should tell no man of him. Mark 8:30 10. And his disciples asked him, saying, Why then say the scribes that Elias must first come? - Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD: Mal. 4:5 - And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come. Matt. 11:14 - And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him. Matt. 17:3 11. And Jesus answered and said unto them, Elias truly shall first come, and restore all things. - And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse. Mal. 4:6 - And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God. Luke 1:16 - Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began. Acts 3:21 12. But I say unto you, That Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them. - He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Isa. 53:3 - For Herod had laid hold on John, and bound him, and put him in prison for Herodias' sake, his brother Philip's wife. Matt. 14:3 - From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day. Matt. 16:21 13. Then the disciples understood that he spake unto them of John the Baptist. - And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come. Matt. 11:14 - And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord. Luke 1:17 - And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elias? And he saith, I am not. Art thou that prophet? And he answered, No. John 1:21 14. And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a certain man, kneeling down to him, and saying, - And there came a leper to him, beseeching him, and kneeling down to him, and saying unto him, If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. Mark 1:40 - And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life? Mark 10:17 - And as Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him, and fell down at his feet, and worshipped him. Acts 10:25 15. Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatick, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water. - And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatick, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them. Matt. 4:24 - And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil. Matt. 15:22 - And, lo, a spirit taketh him, and he suddenly crieth out; and it teareth him that he foameth again, and bruising him hardly departeth from him. Luke 9:39 16. And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him. - Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out? Matt. 17:19 - And I besought thy disciples to cast him out; and they could not. Luke 9:40 - Erastus abode at Corinth: but Trophimus have I left at Miletum sick. 2 Tim. 4:20 17. Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me. - They have corrupted themselves, their spot is not the spot of his children: they are a perverse and crooked generation. Deut. 32:5 - But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas: Matt. 12:39 - And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief. Mark 9:24 18. And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour. - But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour. Matt. 9:22 - Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil, blind, and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw. Matt. 12:22 - And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour. Acts 16:18 19. Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out? - Then came to him the disciples of John, saying, Why do we and the Pharisees fast oft, but thy disciples fast not? Matt. 9:14 - And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables? Matt. 13:10 - And his disciples asked him, saying, Why then say the scribes that Elias must first come? Matt. 17:10 20. And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. - Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field: Matt. 13:31 - To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; 1 Cor. 12:9 - And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. 1 Cor. 13:2 21. Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting. - And he cried unto the LORD, and said, O LORD my God, hast thou also brought evil upon the widow with whom I sojourn, by slaying her son? 1 Kings 17:20 - And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes: Dan. 9:3 - And when they had ordained them elders in every church, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, on whom they believed. Acts 14:23 22. And while they abode in Galilee, Jesus said unto them, The Son of man shall be betrayed into the hands of men: - From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day. Matt. 16:21 - Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be betrayed unto the chief priests and unto the scribes, and they shall condemn him to death, Matt. 20:18 - Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory? Luke 24:26 23. And they shall kill him, and the third day he shall be raised again. And they were exceeding sorry. - For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. Ps. 16:10 - But they understood not that saying, and were afraid to ask him. Mark 9:32 - And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: 1 Cor. 15:4 24. And when they were come to Capernaum, they that received tribute money came to Peter, and said, Doth not your master pay tribute? - This they shall give, every one that passeth among them that are numbered, half a shekel after the shekel of the sanctuary: (a shekel is twenty gerahs:) an half shekel shall be the offering of the LORD. Ex. 30:13 - A bekah for every man, that is, half a shekel, after the shekel of the sanctuary, for every one that went to be numbered, from twenty years old and upward, for six hundred thousand and three thousand and five hundred and fifty men. Ex. 38:26 - And the king called for Jehoiada the chief, and said unto him, Why hast thou not required of the Levites to bring in out of Judah and out of Jerusalem the collection, according to the commandment of Moses the servant of the LORD, and of the congregation of Israel, for the tabernacle of witness? 2 Chron. 24:6 25. He saith, Yes. And when he was come into the house, Jesus prevented him, saying, What thinkest thou, Simon? of whom do the kings of the earth take custom or tribute? of their own children, or of strangers? - Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not? Matt. 22:17 - They say unto him, Caesar's. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's. Matt. 22:21 - Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour. Rom. 13:7 26. Peter saith unto him, Of strangers. Jesus saith unto him, Then are the children free. - A bekah for every man, that is, half a shekel, after the shekel of the sanctuary, for every one that went to be numbered, from twenty years old and upward, for six hundred thousand and three thousand and five hundred and fifty men. Ex. 38:26 - That every man should let his manservant, and every man his maidservant, being an Hebrew or an Hebrewess, go free; that none should serve himself of them, to wit, of a Jew his brother. Jer. 34:9 - If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. John 8:36 27. Notwithstanding, lest we should offend them, go thou to the sea, and cast an hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money: that take, and give unto them for me and thee. - Let every one of us please his neighbour for his good to edification. Rom. 15:2 - Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God: 1 Cor. 10:32 - Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.
