1. Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.

- The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son, Matt. 22:2

- Let your loins be girded about, and your lights burning; Luke 12:35

- Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready. Rev. 19:7

2. And five of them were wise, and five were foolish.

- One basket had very good figs, even like the figs that are first ripe: and the other basket had very naughty figs, which could not be eaten, they were so bad. Jer. 24:2

- Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: Matt. 7:24

- When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side. Matt. 13:19

3. They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them:

- A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is confident. Prov. 14:16

- See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, Eph. 5:15

- And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead. Rev. 3:1

4. But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.

- Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows. Ps. 45:7

- There is treasure to be desired and oil in the dwelling of the wise; but a foolish man spendeth it up. Prov. 21:20

- And said unto me, What seest thou? And I said, I have looked, and behold a candlestick all of gold, with a bowl upon the top of it, and his seven lamps thereon, and seven pipes to the seven lamps, which are upon the top thereof: Zech. 4:2

5. While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.

- But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; Matt. 24:48

- After a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them. Matt. 25:19

- Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. 1 Thess. 5:6

6. And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.

- Our God shall come, and shall not keep silence: a fire shall devour before him, and it shall be very tempestuous round about him. Ps. 50:3

- For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 1 Thess. 4:16

- Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready. Rev. 19:7

7. Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps.

- Let your loins be girded about, and your lights burning; Luke 12:35

- Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless. 2 Pet. 3:14

- Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. Rev. 3:20

8. And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out.

- So are the paths of all that forget God; and the hypocrite's hope shall perish: Job 8:13

- Yea, the light of the wicked shall be put out, and the spark of his fire shall not shine. Job 18:5

- The wise man's eyes are in his head; but the fool walketh in darkness: and I myself perceived also that one event happeneth to them all. Eccles. 2:14

9. But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.

- None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him: Ps. 49:7

- Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. Isa. 55:1

- Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: Isa. 55:6

10. And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.

- And they that went in, went in male and female of all flesh, as God had commanded him: and the LORD shut him in. Gen. 7:16

- When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are: Luke 13:25

- And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth; Rev. 3:7

11. Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.

- And the key of the house of David will I lay upon his shoulder; so he shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open. Isa. 22:22

- Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Matt. 7:21

- For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears. Heb. 12:17

12. But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.

- For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish. Ps. 1:6

- And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. Matt. 7:23

- Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity. 2 Tim. 2:19

13. Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.

- Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. Matt. 24:42

- Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is. Mark 13:33

- Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong. 1 Cor. 16:13

14. For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods.

- Hear another parable: There was a certain householder, which planted a vineyard, and hedged it round about, and digged a winepress in it, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into a far country: Matt. 21:33

- For the Son of Man is as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch. Mark 13:34

- He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return. Luke 19:12

15. And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey.

- But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more. Luke 12:48

- And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come. Luke 19:13

- Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith; Rom. 12:6

16. Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents.

- Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the LORD blessed him. Gen. 26:12

- Thou shalt not give him thy money upon usury, nor lend him thy victuals for increase. Lev. 25:37

- Unto a stranger thou mayest lend upon usury; but unto thy brother thou shalt not lend upon usury: that the LORD thy God may bless thee in all that thou settest thine hand to in the land whither thou goest to possess it. Deut. 23:20

17. And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two.

- But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly after this sort? for all things come of thee, and of thine own have we given thee. 1 Chron. 29:14

- He that by usury and unjust gain increaseth his substance, he shall gather it for him that will pity the poor. Prov. 28:8

- But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. Matt. 13:23

18. But he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord's money.

- He also that is slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great waster. Prov. 18:9

- Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field. Matt. 13:44

- And another came, saying, Lord, behold, here is thy pound, which I have kept laid up in a napkin: Luke 19:20

19. After a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them.

- Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, which would take account of his servants. Matt. 18:23

- Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. 1 Cor. 3:13

- For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. 2 Cor. 5:10

20. And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more.

- Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the LORD blessed him. Gen. 26:12

- But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold. Matt. 13:8

21. His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

- Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods. Matt. 24:47

- He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much. Luke 16:10

- That ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel. Luke 22:30

22. He also that had received two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: behold, I have gained two other talents beside them.

- And the second came, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained five pounds. Luke 19:18

- Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith; Rom. 12:6

- For if there be first a willing mind, it is accepted according to that a man hath, and not according to that he hath not. 2 Cor. 8:12

23. His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

- If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour. John 12:26

- If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us: 2 Tim. 2:12

- To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne. Rev. 3:21

24. Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strawed:

- Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; Ex. 20:5

- And herein is that saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth. John 4:37

- It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. Heb. 10:31

25. And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine.

- And David was afraid of the LORD that day, and said, How shall the ark of the LORD come to me? 2 Sam. 6:9

- And of whom hast thou been afraid or feared, that thou hast lied, and hast not remembered me, nor laid it to thy heart? have not I held my peace even of old, and thou fearest me not? Isa. 57:11

- But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. Rev. 21:8

26. His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed:

- For thy mouth uttereth thine iniquity, and thou choosest the tongue of the crafty. Job 15:5

- Thou shalt sow, but thou shalt not reap; thou shalt tread the olives, but thou shalt not anoint thee with oil; and sweet wine, but shalt not drink wine. Mic. 6:15

- Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me: Matt. 18:32

27. Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury.

- Unto a stranger thou mayest lend upon usury; but unto thy brother thou shalt not lend upon usury: that the LORD thy God may bless thee in all that thou settest thine hand to in the land whither thou goest to possess it. Deut. 23:20

- He that by usury and unjust gain increaseth his substance, he shall gather it for him that will pity the poor. Prov. 28:8

- And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves, Matt. 21:12

28. Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents.

- But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her. Luke 10:42

- But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? Luke 12:20

- And he called him, and said unto him, How is it that I hear this of thee? give an account of thy stewardship; for thou mayest be no longer steward. Luke 16:2

29. For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath.

- For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath. Matt. 13:12

- Take heed therefore how ye hear: for whosoever hath, to him shall be given; and whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he seemeth to have. Luke 8:18

- Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent. Rev. 2:5

30. And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

- And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. Matt. 13:42

- Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. Mark 9:48

- So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. Rev. 3:16

31. When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:

- For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works. Matt. 16:27

- Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels. Mark 8:38

- And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, Jude 1:14

32. And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:

- And as for you, O my flock, thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I judge between cattle and cattle, between the rams and the he goats. Ezek. 34:17

- So shall it be at the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the just, Matt. 13:49

- For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. 2 Cor. 5:10

33. And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.

- And he removed that day the he goats that were ring-streaked and spotted, and all the she goats that were speckled and spotted, and every one that had some white in it, and all the brown among the sheep, and gave them into the hand of his sons. Gen. 30:35

- And Joseph took them both, Ephraim in his right hand toward Israel's left hand, and Manasseh in his left hand toward Israel's right hand, and brought them near unto him. Gen. 48:13

- Then were there two thieves crucified with him, one on the right hand, and another on the left. Matt. 27:38

34. Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

- Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Luke 12:32

- Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him? James 2:5

- He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. Rev. 21:7

35. For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:

- If there be among you a poor man of one of thy brethren within any of thy gates in thy land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not harden thine heart, nor shut thine hand from thy poor brother: Deut. 15:7

- Neither hath oppressed any, hath not withholden the pledge, neither hath spoiled by violence, but hath given his bread to the hungry, and hath covered the naked with a garment, Ezek. 18:16

- But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? 1 John 3:17

36. Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.

- For ye had compassion of me in my bonds, and took joyfully the spoiling of your goods, knowing in yourselves that ye have in heaven a better and an enduring substance. Heb. 10:34

- Remember them that are in bonds, as bound with them; and them which suffer adversity, as being yourselves also in the body. Heb. 13:3

- Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world. James 1:27

37. Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?

- But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly after this sort? for all things come of thee, and of thine own have we given thee. 1 Chron. 29:14

- The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility. Prov. 15:33

- He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me. Matt. 10:40

38. When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?

- But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: Matt. 6:3

- Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares. Heb. 13:2

- Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. 1 Pet. 5:5

39. Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?

- At that time Berodachbaladan, the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a present unto Hezekiah: for he had heard that Hezekiah had been sick. 2 Kings 20:12

- For ye had compassion of me in my bonds, and took joyfully the spoiling of your goods, knowing in yourselves that ye have in heaven a better and an enduring substance. Heb. 10:34

- Remember them that are in bonds, as bound with them; and them which suffer adversity, as being yourselves also in the body. Heb. 13:3

40. And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

- He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again. Prov. 19:17

- And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward. Matt. 10:42

- And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me. Matt. 18:5

41. Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

- And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. Matt. 7:23

- And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever. Rev. 20:10

- And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. Rev. 20:15

42. For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:

- For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment. James 2:13

- And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? James 2:16

- Your words have been stout against me, saith the LORD. Yet ye say, What have we spoken so much against thee? Mal. 3:13

- Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? Matt. 7:22

- But he, willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour? Luke 10:29

45. Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.

- He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker: but he that honoureth him hath mercy on the poor. Prov. 14:31

- Whoso mocketh the poor reproacheth his Maker: and he that is glad at calamities shall not be unpunished. Prov. 17:5

- Whoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself, but shall not be heard. Prov. 21:13

46. And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

- And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. Dan. 12:2

- Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. John 5:24

- But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness. Rom. 4:5
