1. And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished all these sayings, he said unto his disciples,

2. Ye know that after two days is the feast of the passover, and the Son of man is betrayed to be crucified.

- And shall deliver him to the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify him: and the third day he shall rise again. Matt. 20:19

- After two days was the feast of the passover, and of unleavened bread: and the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might take him by craft, and put him to death. Mark 14:1

- Now the feast of unleavened bread drew nigh, which is called the Passover. Luke 22:1

3. Then assembled together the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders of the people, unto the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas,

- And they that had laid hold on Jesus led him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were assembled. Matt. 26:57

- And Peter followed him afar off, even into the palace of the high priest: and he sat with the servants, and warmed himself at the fire. Mark 14:54

- Now Annas had sent him bound unto Caiaphas the high priest. John 18:24

4. And consulted that they might take Jesus by subtilty, and kill him.

- The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, Ps. 2:2

- Then the Pharisees went out, and held a council against him, how they might destroy him. Matt. 12:14

- Then from that day forth they took counsel together for to put him to death. John 11:53

5. But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar among the people.

- But when they sought to lay hands on him, they feared the multitude, because they took him for a prophet. Matt. 21:46

- When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it. Matt. 27:24

- If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him: and the Romans shall come and take away both our place and nation. John 11:48

6. Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper,

- And he left them, and went out of the city into Bethany; and he lodged there. Matt. 21:17

- And on the morrow, when they were come from Bethany, he was hungry: Mark 11:12

- Then Jesus six days before the passover came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, which had been dead, whom he raised from the dead. John 12:1

7. There came unto him a woman having an alabaster box of very precious ointment, and poured it on his head, as he sat at meat.

- Take thou also unto thee principal spices, of pure myrrh five hundred shekels, and of sweet cinnamon half so much, even two hundred and fifty shekels, and of sweet calamus two hundred and fifty shekels, Ex. 30:23

- And thou shalt put upon Aaron the holy garments, and anoint him, and sanctify him; that he may minister unto me in the priest's office. Ex. 40:13

- Let thy garments be always white; and let thy head lack no ointment. Eccles. 9:8

8. But when his disciples saw it, they had indignation, saying, To what purpose is this waste?

- But he said, Ye are idle, ye are idle: therefore ye say, Let us go and do sacrifice to the LORD. Ex. 5:17

- Again, I considered all travail, and every right work, that for this a man is envied of his neighbour. This is also vanity and vexation of spirit. Eccles. 4:4

- Then saith one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, which should betray him, John 12:4

9. For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor.

- But Gehazi, the servant of Elisha the man of God, said, Behold, my master hath spared Naaman this Syrian, in not receiving at his hands that which he brought: but, as the LORD liveth, I will run after him, and take somewhat of him. 2 Kings 5:20

- For it might have been sold for more than three hundred pence, and have been given to the poor. And they murmured against her. Mark 14:5

- This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein. John 12:6

10. When Jesus understood it, he said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she hath wrought a good work upon me.

- And many women were there beholding afar off, which followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering unto him: Matt. 27:55

- And he turned to the woman, and said unto Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entered into thine house, thou gavest me no water for my feet: but she hath washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head. Luke 7:44

- And let our's also learn to maintain good works for necessary uses, that they be not unfruitful. Titus 3:14

11. For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always.

- For the poor shall never cease out of the land: therefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt open thine hand wide unto thy brother, to thy poor, and to thy needy, in thy land. Deut. 15:11

- For ye have the poor with you always, and whensoever ye will ye may do them good: but me ye have not always. Mark 14:7

- I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father. John 16:28

12. For in that she hath poured this ointment on my body, she did it for my burial.

- And they buried him in his own sepulchres, which he had made for himself in the city of David, and laid him in the bed which was filled with sweet odorous and divers kinds of spices prepared by the apothecaries' art: and they made a very great burning for him. 2 Chron. 16:14

- And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him. Mark 16:1

- Then took they the body of Jesus, and wound it in linen clothes with the spices, as the manner of the Jews is to bury. John 19:40

13. Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her.

- Surely he shall not be moved for ever: the righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance. Ps. 112:6

- And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come. Matt. 24:14

- For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister. Heb. 6:10

14. Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests,

- Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me. Ps. 41:9

- Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve. Luke 22:3

- And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him; John 13:2

15. And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver.

- Then there passed by Midianites merchantmen; and they drew and lifted up Joseph out of the pit, and sold Joseph to the Ishmaelites for twenty pieces of silver: and they brought Joseph into Egypt. Gen. 37:28

- If the ox shall push a manservant or a maidservant; he shall give unto their master thirty shekels of silver, and the ox shall be stoned. Ex. 21:32

- And I said unto them, If ye think good, give me my price; and if not, forbear. So they weighed for my price thirty pieces of silver. Zech. 11:12

16. And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him.

- And he thought scorn to lay hands on Mordecai alone; for they had shewed him the people of Mordecai: wherefore Haman sought to destroy all the Jews that were throughout the whole kingdom of Ahasuerus, even the people of Mordecai. Est. 3:6

- But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar among the people. Matt. 26:5

- And Herod said, John have I beheaded: but who is this, of whom I hear such things? And he desired to see him. Luke 9:9

17. Now the first day of the feast of unleavened bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare for thee to eat the passover?

- And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening. Ex. 12:6

- In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at even, ye shall eat unleavened bread, until the one and twentieth day of the month at even. Ex. 12:18

- And he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare us the passover, that we may eat. Luke 22:8

18. And he said, Go into the city to such a man, and say unto him, The Master saith, My time is at hand; I will keep the passover at thy house with my disciples.

- Then they sought to take him: but no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come. John 7:30

- Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end. John 13:1

- These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee: John 17:1

19. And the disciples did as Jesus had appointed them; and they made ready the passover.

- And if the household be too little for the lamb, let him and his neighbor next unto his house take it according to the number of the souls; every man according to his eating shall make your count for the lamb. Ex. 12:4

- And the disciples went, and did as Jesus commanded them, Matt. 21:6

- Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you. John 15:14

20. Now when the even was come, he sat down with the twelve.

- And they shall eat the flesh in that night, roast with fire, and unleavened bread; and with bitter herbs they shall eat it. Ex. 12:8

- And one of the Pharisees desired him that he would eat with him. And he went into the Pharisee's house, and sat down to meat. Luke 7:36

- For they were about five thousand men. And he said to his disciples, Make them sit down by fifties in a company. Luke 9:14

21. And as they did eat, he said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.

- Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me. Ps. 41:9

- But, behold, the hand of him that betrayeth me is with me on the table. Luke 22:21

- When Jesus had thus said, he was troubled in spirit, and testified, and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me. John 13:21

22. And they were exceeding sorrowful, and began every one of them to say unto him, Lord, is it I?

- And they began to enquire among themselves, which of them it was that should do this thing. Luke 22:23

- Then the disciples looked one on another, doubting of whom he spake. John 13:22

- He then lying on Jesus' breast saith unto him, Lord, who is it? John 13:25

23. And he answered and said, He that dippeth his hand with me in the dish, the same shall betray me.

- Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me. Ps. 41:9

- But, behold, the hand of him that betrayeth me is with me on the table. Luke 22:21

- Jesus answered, He it is, to whom I shall give a sop, when I have dipped it. And when he had dipped the sop, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon. John 13:26

24. The Son of man goeth as it is written of him: but woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! it had been good for that man if he had not been born.

- Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh! Matt. 18:7

- And he answered and told them, Elias verily cometh first, and restoreth all things; and how it is written of the Son of man, that he must suffer many things, and be set at nought. Mark 9:12

- While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled. John 17:12

25. Then Judas, which betrayed him, answered and said, Master, is it I? He said unto him, Thou hast said.

- But he went in, and stood before his master. And Elisha said unto him, Whence comest thou, Gehazi? And he said, Thy servant went no whither. 2 Kings 5:25

- And Jesus stood before the governor: and the governor asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And Jesus said unto him, Thou sayest. Matt. 27:11

- Now no man at the table knew for what intent he spake this unto him. John 13:28

26. And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body.

- And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude. Matt. 14:19

- The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ? 1 Cor. 10:16

- For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: 1 Cor. 11:23

27. And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;

- I will take the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of the LORD. Ps. 116:13

- I am come into my garden, my sister, my spouse: I have gathered my myrrh with my spice; I have eaten my honeycomb with my honey; I have drunk my wine with my milk: eat, O friends; drink, yea, drink abundantly, O beloved. Song 5:1

- Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. Isa. 55:1

28. For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

- And Moses took the blood, and sprinkled it on the people, and said, Behold the blood of the covenant, which the LORD hath made with you concerning all these words. Ex. 24:8

- For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul. Lev. 17:11

- Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, Heb. 13:20

29. But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom.

- Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear. Matt. 13:43

- For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God. Luke 22:16

- Not to all the people, but unto witnesses chosen before God, even to us, who did eat and drink with him after he rose from the dead. Acts 10:41

30. And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.

- Take a psalm, and bring hither the timbrel, the pleasant harp with the psaltery. Ps. 81:2

- And he came out, and went, as he was wont, to the mount of Olives; and his disciples also followed him. Luke 22:39

- Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. Col. 3:16

31. Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad.

- Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, and against the man that is my fellow, saith the LORD of hosts: smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered: and I will turn mine hand upon the little ones. Zech. 13:7

- And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me. Matt. 11:6

- Behold, the hour cometh, yea, is now come, that ye shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me. John 16:32

32. But after I am risen again, I will go before you into Galilee.

- Then said Jesus unto them, Be not afraid: go tell my brethren that they go into Galilee, and there shall they see me. Matt. 28:10

- Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them. Matt. 28:16

- After these things Jesus shewed himself again to the disciples at the sea of Tiberias; and on this wise shewed he himself. John 21:1

33. Peter answered and said unto him, Though all men shall be offended because of thee, yet will I never be offended.

- Uphold me according unto thy word, that I may live: and let me not be ashamed of my hope. Ps. 119:116

- And he said unto him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into prison, and to death. Luke 22:33

- But I said, Not so, Lord: for nothing common or unclean hath at any time entered into my mouth. Acts 11:8

34. Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this night, before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.

- But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven. Matt. 10:33

- And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly. Matt. 26:75

- If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself. 2 Tim. 2:13

35. Peter said unto him, Though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee. Likewise also said all the disciples.

- Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall. Prov. 16:18

- Peter said unto him, Lord, why cannot I follow thee now? I will lay down my life for thy sake. John 13:37

- This spake he, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he saith unto him, Follow me. John 21:19

36. Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder.

- And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone. Matt. 14:23

- And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God. Luke 6:12

- When Jesus had spoken these words, he went forth with his disciples over the brook Cedron, where was a garden, into the which he entered, and his disciples. John 18:1

37. And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy.

- And going on from thence, he saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them. Matt. 4:21

- And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart, Matt. 17:1

- And he suffered no man to follow him, save Peter, and James, and John the brother of James. Mark 5:37

38. Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me.

- Oh that my grief were throughly weighed, and my calamity laid in the balances together! Job 6:2

- O my God, my soul is cast down within me: therefore will I remember thee from the land of Jordan, and of the Hermonites, from the hill Mizar. Ps. 42:6

- Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour. John 12:27

39. And he went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.

- For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me. John 6:38

- Then said Jesus unto Peter, Put up thy sword into the sheath: the cup which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it? John 18:11

- Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared; Heb. 5:7

40. And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?

- While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. Matt. 25:5

- And he came and found them asleep again: for their eyes were heavy. Matt. 26:43

- But Peter and they that were with him were heavy with sleep: and when they were awake, they saw his glory, and the two men that stood with him. Luke 9:32

41. Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

- And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. Matt. 6:13

- For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I. Rom. 7:15

- But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway. 1 Cor. 9:27

42. He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done.

- Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Matt. 6:10

- And he went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt. Matt. 26:39

- Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared; Heb. 5:7

43. And he came and found them asleep again: for their eyes were heavy.

- So the shipmaster came to him, and said unto him, What meanest thou, O sleeper? arise, call upon thy God, if so be that God will think upon us, that we perish not. Jonah 1:6

- But Peter and they that were with him were heavy with sleep: and when they were awake, they saw his glory, and the two men that stood with him. Luke 9:32

- Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. 1 Thess. 5:6

44. And he left them, and went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words.

- Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime. Dan. 6:10

- And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint; Luke 18:1

- For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. 2 Cor. 12:8

45. Then cometh he to his disciples, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.

- When I was daily with you in the temple, ye stretched forth no hands against me: but this is your hour, and the power of darkness. Luke 22:53

- And it came to pass, when the time was come that he should be received up, he stedfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem, Luke 9:51

- But I have a baptism to be baptized with; and how am I straitened till it be accomplished! Luke 12:50

- But that the world may know that I love the Father; and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go hence. John 14:31

47. And while he yet spake, lo, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and elders of the people.

- Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests, Matt. 26:14

- Judas then, having received a band of men and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, cometh thither with lanterns and torches and weapons. John 18:3

- Men and brethren, this scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost by the mouth of David spake before concerning Judas, which was guide to them that took Jesus. Acts 1:16

48. Now he that betrayed him gave them a sign, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he: hold him fast.

- And when Abner was returned to Hebron, Joab took him aside in the gate to speak with him quietly, and smote him there under the fifth rib, that he died, for the blood of Asahel his brother. 2 Sam. 3:27

- And Joab said to Amasa, Art thou in health, my brother? And Joab took Amasa by the beard with the right hand to kiss him. 2 Sam. 20:9

- Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful. Prov. 27:6

49. And forthwith he came to Jesus, and said, Hail, master; and kissed him.

- And his father Isaac said unto him, Come near now, and kiss me, my son. Gen. 27:26

- Then Samuel took a vial of oil, and poured it upon his head, and kissed him, and said, Is it not because the LORD hath anointed thee to be captain over his inheritance? 1 Sam. 10:1

- Greet all the brethren with an holy kiss. 1 Thess. 5:26

50. And Jesus said unto him, Friend, wherefore art thou come? Then came they, and laid hands on Jesus and took him.

- Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me. Ps. 41:9

- And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless. Matt. 22:12

- But Jesus said unto him, Judas, betrayest thou the Son of man with a kiss? Luke 22:48

51. And, behold, one of them which were with Jesus stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and struck a servant of the high priest's, and smote off his ear.

- And one of them that stood by drew a sword, and smote a servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear. Mark 14:47

- But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of. Luke 9:55

- Then Simon Peter having a sword drew it, and smote the high priest's servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant's name was Malchus. John 18:10

52. Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.

- Whoso sheddeth man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man. Gen. 9:6

- But thou, O God, shalt bring them down into the pit of destruction: bloody and deceitful men shall not live out half their days; but I will trust in thee. Ps. 55:23

- He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints. Rev. 13:10

53. Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?

- And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha. 2 Kings 6:17

- A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him: thousand thousands ministered unto him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him: the judgment was set, and the books were opened. Dan. 7:10

54. But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?

- He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth. Isa. 53:7

- Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, and against the man that is my fellow, saith the LORD of hosts: smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered: and I will turn mine hand upon the little ones. Zech. 13:7

- Men and brethren, this scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost by the mouth of David spake before concerning Judas, which was guide to them that took Jesus. Acts 1:16

55. In that same hour said Jesus to the multitudes, Are ye come out as against a thief with swords and staves for to take me? I sat daily with you teaching in the temple, and ye laid no hold on me.

- And Jesus answered and said, while he taught in the temple, How say the scribes that Christ is the son of David? Mark 12:35

- And in the day time he was teaching in the temple; and at night he went out, and abode in the mount that is called the mount of Olives. Luke 21:37

- And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them. John 8:2

56. But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled.

57. And they that had laid hold on Jesus led him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were assembled.

- Every day they wrest my words: all their thoughts are against me for evil. Ps. 56:5

- Then assembled together the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders of the people, unto the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas, Matt. 26:3

- And led him away to Annas first; for he was father in law to Caiaphas, which was the high priest that same year. John 18:13

58. But Peter followed him afar off unto the high priest's palace, and went in, and sat with the servants, to see the end.

- And Peter followed him afar off, even into the palace of the high priest: and he sat with the servants, and warmed himself at the fire. Mark 14:54

- The Pharisees heard that the people murmured such things concerning him; and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to take him. John 7:32

- But Peter stood at the door without. Then went out that other disciple, which was known unto the high priest, and spake unto her that kept the door, and brought in Peter. John 18:16

59. Now the chief priests, and elders, and all the council, sought false witness against Jesus, to put him to death;

- If a false witness rise up against any man to testify against him that which is wrong; Deut. 19:16

- So she wrote letters in Ahab's name, and sealed them with his seal, and sent the letters unto the elders and to the nobles that were in his city, dwelling with Naboth. 1 Kings 21:8

- For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: Matt. 15:19

60. But found none: yea, though many false witnesses came, yet found they none. At the last came two false witnesses,

- At the mouth of two witnesses, or three witnesses, shall he that is worthy of death be put to death; but at the mouth of one witness he shall not be put to death. Deut. 17:6

- One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin, in any sin that he sinneth: at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall the matter be established. Deut. 19:15

- False witnesses did rise up; they laid to my charge things that I knew not. Ps. 35:11

61. And said, This fellow said, I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days.

- And saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself. If thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross. Matt. 27:40

- Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. John 2:19

- But he spake of the temple of his body. John 2:21

62. And the high priest arose, and said unto him, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?

63. But Jesus held his peace, And the high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God.

- And if a soul sin, and hear the voice of swearing, and is a witness, whether he hath seen or known of it; if he do not utter it, then he shall bear his iniquity. Lev. 5:1

- And the men of Israel were distressed that day: for Saul had adjured the people, saying, Cursed be the man that eateth any food until evening, that I may be avenged on mine enemies. So none of the people tasted any food. 1 Sam. 14:24

- And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. Matt. 16:16

64. Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.

- The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool. Ps. 110:1

- I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. Dan. 7:13

- For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works. Matt. 16:27

65. Then the high priest rent his clothes, saying, He hath spoken blasphemy; what further need have we of witnesses? behold, now ye have heard his blasphemy.

- And, behold, certain of the scribes said within themselves, This man blasphemeth. Matt. 9:3

- The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God. John 10:33

- Which when the apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard of, they rent their clothes, and ran in among the people, crying out, Acts 14:14

66. What think ye? They answered and said, He is guilty of death.

- And he that blasphemeth the name of the LORD, he shall surely be put to death, and all the congregation shall certainly stone him: as well the stranger, as he that is born in the land, when he blasphemeth the name of the Lord, shall be put to death. Lev. 24:16

- The Jews answered him, We have a law, and by our law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God. John 19:7

- Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? and they have slain them which shewed before of the coming of the Just One; of whom ye have been now the betrayers and murderers: Acts 7:52

67. Then did they spit in his face, and buffeted him; and others smote him with the palms of their hands,

- I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair: I hid not my face from shame and spitting. Isa. 50:6

- And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head. Matt. 27:30

- And when he had thus spoken, one of the officers which stood by struck Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying, Answerest thou the high priest so? John 18:22

68. Saying, Prophesy unto us, thou Christ, Who is he that smote thee?

- And they said one to another, Behold, this dreamer cometh. Gen. 37:19

- And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him, Prophesy: and the servants did strike him with the palms of their hands. Mark 14:65

- And the men that held Jesus mocked him, and smote him. Luke 22:63

69. Now Peter sat without in the palace: and a damsel came unto him, saying, Thou also wast with Jesus of Galilee.

- And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah? 1 Kings 19:13

- They answered and said unto him, Art thou also of Galilee? Search, and look: for out of Galilee ariseth no prophet. John 7:52

- Then saith the damsel that kept the door unto Peter, Art not thou also one of this man's disciples? He saith, I am not. John 18:17

70. But he denied before them all, saying, I know not what thou sayest.

- But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven. Matt. 10:33

- Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall. 1 Cor. 10:12

- But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. Rev. 21:8

71. And when he was gone out into the porch, another maid saw him, and said unto them that were there, This fellow was also with Jesus of Nazareth.

- And a maid saw him again, and began to say to them that stood by, This is one of them. Mark 14:69

- And after a little while another saw him, and said, Thou art also of them. And Peter said, Man, I am not. Luke 22:58

- And Simon Peter stood and warmed himself. They said therefore unto him, Art not thou also one of his disciples? He denied it, and said, I am not. John 18:25

72. And again he denied with an oath, I do not know the man.

- Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain. Ex. 20:7

- Hear ye this, O house of Jacob, which are called by the name of Israel, and are come forth out of the waters of Judah, which swear by the name of the LORD, and make mention of the God of Israel, but not in truth, nor in righteousness. Isa. 48:1

- And he said, I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me. Luke 22:34

73. And after a while came unto him they that stood by, and said to Peter, Surely thou also art one of them; for thy speech bewrayeth thee.

- Then said they unto him, Say now Shibboleth: and he said Sibboleth: for he could not frame to pronounce it right. Then they took him, and slew him at the passages of Jordan: and there fell at that time of the Ephraimites forty and two thousand. Judg. 12:6

- And about the space of one hour after another confidently affirmed, saying, Of a truth this fellow also was with him: for he is a Galilaean. Luke 22:59

- One of the servants of the high priest, being his kinsman whose ear Peter cut off, saith, Did not I see thee in the garden with him? John 18:26

74. Then began he to curse and to swear, saying, I know not the man. And immediately the cock crew.

- And ye shall not swear by my name falsely, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I am the LORD. Lev. 19:12

- And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. Matt. 10:28

- But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation. James 5:12

75. And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly.

- Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this night, before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. Matt. 26:34

- And the second time the cock crew. And Peter called to mind the word that Jesus said unto him, Before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice. And when he thought thereon, he wept. Mark 14:72

- For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do. Rom. 7:19
