Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God's elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness; - Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; Col. 3:12 - Whereunto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not;) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity. 1 Tim. 2:7 - But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness. 2 Tim. 2:16 2. In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began; - God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good? For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre; - Do not drink wine nor strong drink, thou, nor thy sons with thee, when ye go into the tabernacle of the congregation, lest ye die: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations: Lev. 10:9 - For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will, a dispensation of the gospel is committed unto me. 1 Cor. 9:17 - Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; 1 Pet. 5:2 8. But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate; - Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality. Rom. 12:13 - But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Gal. 5:22 - Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares. Heb. 13:2 9. Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers. - If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness; 1 Tim. 6:3 - But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; 2 Tim. 3:14 - But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine: Titus 2:1 10. For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision: - And certain men which came down from Judaea taught the brethren, and said, Except ye be circumcised after the manner of Moses, ye cannot be saved. Acts 15:1 - For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. Acts 20:29 - But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain. Titus 3:9 11. Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake. - Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself. 1 Tim. 6:5 - Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some. 2 Tim. 2:18 - For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, 2 Tim. 3:6 12. One of themselves, even a prophet of their own, said, The Cretians are alway liars, evil beasts, slow bellies. - For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple. Rom. 16:18 - Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.) Phil. 3:19 - And withal they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not. 1 Tim. 5:13 13. This witness is true. Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith; - Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. 2 Tim. 4:2 - That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience. Titus 2:2 - These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee. Titus 2:15 14. Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth. - Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men: Isa. 29:13 - But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. Matt. 15:9 - Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances, Col. 2:20 15. Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled. - Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man. Matt. 15:11 - For meat destroy not the work of God. All things indeed are pure; but it is evil for that man who eateth with offence. Rom. 14:20 - All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any. 1 Cor. 6:12 16. They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate. - Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, Rom. 1:30 - Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. 2 Tim. 3:5 - For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.
